Explain evasion please?
Maybe some1 experiences with the tabletop could give me a detailed answer.

How does evasion really work?

Does it matter if your mech is a light or heavy or the one shooting you is a light or heavy?

I have a feeling that my medium scout with one or two chevrons dodged a lot more than my heavys with 4-5 chevrons (being fired on by enemy heavys)

So I wonder if anyone knows the formula behind it.

Correct.

In fact, the game will factor in Evasion for you when you're targeting an enemy mech with your weapons -- or example, if you have an 85% chance to hit an enemy mech when it's standing still in the open, that same enemy mech, with two Evasion marks, will have a 65% chance to be hit.

based on distance you travel (jumpsets give you a bonus) you gain different amount of evasioncharges.

each timne yoou get shot at 1 evasion charge will be used up, if you jump and get 5 charges, the next attacker get's a -50% chance to hit you, after the attack, you are left with 4 charges no matter if he hit or not. the next attacker will get -40% to hit and so on.
sensor lock 'removes' 2 evasion in one go

So, size of enemy mech or weapon are unaffected? In other games it’s really hard to hit small targets with huge weapons.

And each evasion charge (chevron) is 10%?

And most importantly: Is the evasion of an enemy calculated when displaying my hit chance or do I have to do that in my head?

Use lots of stability damage for easy kills LRMS are great for this I got 2 LRM 20s with +2 stab damage and its like a guaranteed knock down or atleast unsteady which clears their evasive

Heavier mechs cannot move as far as lighter mechs, and so they cannot get more than two "pips" of Evasion (unless the pilot has the "Evasive" skill or the mech has JJs.)

Yes, each chevron is a 10% penalty to hit.

See my above post -- the displayed chance-to-hit already takes Evasion into account.

Note that bracing doesn't break evasion. I occasionally see posts that assume it does. Always brace if you've got nothing better to do.

the size of a target is factored in as well. if you mose over a weapon you want to shoot, it shows you exactly how the hit chance is calculated (for the upper one it may takes some movearound for the mouse to get it, sometimes it seems to 'target' the background instead of the interface)
