Mouse over any orange text that appears in conversations, and a little lore popup window appears. For instance, the dropship Newgrange that appears in-game was named for a class of yardship that's now considered extinct. (Certain parts of ComStar know otherwise, of course.)

Call me silly but really like that part, I was like "who are those guys? where are they going?", yes these are very tiny details, but they all add up to the immersion for me.

Same for me, it's the small things that enchance the experiance. I was really surprised when I got multiple jumpship jumps on my long trip, pleasently. Ofc we're going to jump to all the places on the route, it's a space bus route after all. :D

Lore-wise, jumpships have a maximum range of 30 light-years, and most navigators in the Succession Wars era steadfastly refuse to try to push the limit. During the Star League era, certain technologies were being tested that could extend it, but were unperfected prototypes that had some really nasty side effects - like destroying the hellaciously-expensive (tens to hundreds of millions of C-bills) FTL drive that forms the whole ship's spine (basically stranding the ship wherever it ends up).

Trying to get a jump drive to do things it isn't supposed to not only runs the risk of that kind of destruction, but even worse things can happen. Misjumps are the stuff of sci-fi horror. You might get lucky, and your ship just ends up somewhere else - like in an enemy system (ask the crew of the Chahar Profit about that). If you're unlucky, the crew might be fused into the bulkheads, you might end up in the core of a planet, or in a completely different galaxy... and at one jump per week, good luck ever getting back with that 30 LY range.

Sumire Meyer's comment about ending up stranded in a fetid swamp infested with birds was a lampshaded reference to the story Far Country, that began with such a misjump that both sent the ship somewhere else, and wrecked it to the point of being unable to jump out of the system.

I don't find it too long but I find it extremely repetitive. I didn't mind watching it a few times, now I just want to skip to the actual game instead of watching 3, 4, 5, 6... 10 jump animations in a row. Please, please add a way to disable these and skip directly to the next "event, whatever that may be.

You are travelling through a galaxy. It takes time... And stuff happens on your ship when travelling. Complaints are all invalid, it's another part of the game.

I'm not surprised that some people enjoy this sort of thing. The first 5 or 10 times I saw the animation I though it looked cool. After the first hundred or so times I started to feel like it was a waste of time that could be spent refitting mechs, fighting battles, or going through dialogues pertaining to the story. You know, actually playing the game. I'd prefer that over staring at the damn jumpship for the thousandth time. It's almost as bad as the elevators in Mass Effect.... almost. I often do other things while waiting for these animations end, as in other things not related to playing the game. That, to me, kills the immersion and fun of it. Every single time I travel, and I have to travel after every frigging mission these days because I never seem to get more than one in a system before I have to leave, I have to watch the jumpship animations over and over and over. It's mind-numbing.

As with any other needless, repetitive animation most of us would like a way to skip it and get to the actual gameplay. If I'm sitting here doing nothing but staring at the screen I may as well be watching television... heck, I do that while the jump ship is traveling anyway when I'd rather be actually interacting with the game in some meaningful way.

*sigh* Devs, please, add an option to skip all jumpship animations and go directly to the next event. Please. So boring.... so... boring. I want to get back to smashing mechs!

Well, they'll never get rid of the flying-back-and-forth part, since that's counting down the days on the repair & finance timeline. The dock & undock animations can be escaped out of.

...and I just realized that the actual Jumpship-charging section is also part of the timeline, since days pass there as well. The only other purely-aesthetic bit is the scene of the Jumpship actually going *poof*.

I'll admit that I don't really notice it because I have a second screen off to the side and do things like checking this forum on a browser. ;) (more often during mission load screens, of course, since they're the longest part)

I also don't suffer from this "immersion" problem that so many people seem to have. And I'm glad of it, because all it seems to do (based on complaints I've seen on various game forums) is "ruin games" when it "breaks". I'm glad I can just play & enjoy games, instead of trying to be 'immersed' /shrug

(...I really missed the ME1 elevator scenes when I played ME 2. All the crew conversations & news broadcasts that happened were nice.)

Use the time between jumps to check the stores and hiring halls. You never know if you might find something worthwhile or interesting enough to stop the trip and head planetside.

new jumpship travel animations in the new expansion

honestly I just use all the travel anims to take small breaks, like grab some water or go pop a window, or go close window.
