No voiceovers
There does not seem to be any voiceovers at all with this game. It was there for the first training video, but immediatly afterwords, and even upon restarting the whole campaign and the whole game no voiceover sound appears. I have no idea what is wrong with the sound files.

What do you mean? No voices whatsoever?

Most of the game is NOT voiced. Just a few lines here are there.

part of the game is voiced, part isn't, like many old school style rpgs made by smaller dev teams.
The important stuff is voiced, other stuff you can read, its not that hard.

It's not a matter of it being hard, ya dingaling, it's that it lacks the extra characterization and engagement that VO can bring. I mean, I loved Baldur's Gate II, but it's not Y2K anymore, is it?

Voice work takes ALOT of money. This isnt a AAA studio, they were running low on funds toward launch....Im pretty stoked with what we got! Especially each mech pilot not just saying...out of ammo...but out opf Lrms, SRMS, etc etc...thats agreat touch!

it would have been to their benefit i think if the story convorsations aboard the argo were voiced.

but i dont handle HBS's funding. so i could be asking for a million dollar feature and not know it xP.

From what I've observed over the years, voiceovers are one of the most costly aspects of game development. While HBS has a publisher now (who I hope will be comfortable with throwing large stacks of cash at a sequel), this is a game that came off Kickstarter on a very limited budget.

It is a shame that there isn't full voicework for all character dialogue, but I understand why and it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game.

Voice actors, recording booths and the time to edit all the sounds is not free. They were working with a relatively small budget.

Apart from obvious money question there is also one more thing. It gives the game certain flavour. Reading is not the same as listening to voiceover or watching video. It gives more freedom to imagination. I liked how it worked in shadowrun, and i am continuing to like it in battletech. Even though i am not a native english speaker and, most likely, still read much slower than normal.

At first I had an issue with to little voice and to much text. But once you read the text you get into it. Sure, more voice would be nice....and, they are working on exactly that. =)

Gkitch was voiced by one of the devs kids. It was a place holder, but the team decided to keep it in.

LOL that's awesome.

I started out hating her constant chirpy quips but they totally grew on me over time, now she's my favorite.

The one I do NOT like is one of the backer pilots I hired with an over the top brooklyn accent... Takes me out of the game every time I hear him! (I forget the name... Kinda looks Native American with blue facepaint)

Remember the "good" old days when the Devs and anyone they could grab for free and stick in front of a microphone did the VOs ?:P

I still often get the image of the military advisor from Civ 2 yelling at me to "Build city walls!!"

I'm sick, I need help
