There is - manual - and you have to be upright. Unlike the tabletop there is no auto-eject, however, so you have to conciously choose meat over metal.
Once you've punched out that mech is considered out of the battle - but will be back in your bay for (extensive, expensive) repairs. Any cockpit modifications will be destroyed by the ejection.
OpFor can be surprisingly smart, using human tactics like "everyone shoot that mech!" and "I'll jump in the middle of these mechs and Multi-target three with my 3 flamers", and it can also be remarkably stupid. Not quite wall-humping CounterStrike stupid, but "I am being shot, but do not know from where, so I will stay still" stupid.
AI needs improvement in heat management (I will shoot until I shut down) and morale (I am a Cicada, I will happily fight that Altas because I hate my life and wish to shorten it considerably) - but I suspect those will take a backburner to problems like "my mech has spawned inside a rock, and cannot move"
And humans are always better, no matter how good the decision tree is for the AI - a friend of mine learned to play Battletech on MegaMek - but when I was OpFor I did things like break line of sight if I didnt have a viable attack vector - which MegaMek never did.
You could be right. I may be making a tabletop mistake - again. I've never tried punching out while prone - I'll take a look next time one of my mechs is being held together with duct tape and wishful thinking.
Yeah, the Banshee kinda sucks. I do think energy weapons need a bit of the buff in either the damage or weight dept. except for medium lasers, because they're short range but good. The banshee sucks because heavy energy weapons kinda suck.
