Liberate: Panzyr; Why can't I target the Dropship Control Center?
Hi all,

Having fun but I've run into something of a problem. In the mission Liberate: Panzyr (the...I think third campaign mission?) you are supposed to destroy a building within 15 turns.

But it's not working. They have a ton of mechs and it's a race against time, which is fine, but for some reason I cannot target the building I need to destroy. All of my AC's, my LRMs can damage walls near it or even a building next to it, but not the Control Center itself. Even destroying walls in front of it (which shouldn't be a problem because I can hit walls behind) doesn't let me target the damn thing.

Anyone have any ideas? Or will it only allow me to attack it when I'm right next to it? Which I don't know how I'll do that in 15 turns and a ton of mechs on my tail...

Thanks all,

-Porthanos

Does anybody have the red target line on it? I wanted to sensor lock it but was unable to do so. In the end I had a light mech run up to it while the missile boat shot it. Otherwise, sorry I can't help.

Didn't try to sensor lock it, but I took it out by rushing my Shadowhawk up there when I was down to 6 turns left and jumpjetting up to it while my other mechs kept the remaining enemy busy.

I did it with mediums but I also did need to reload twice. This was my working strategy:
At the start of the map advance on the left of the small base, taking out the vehicles. Make sure at leas one mech is on the road leading to the primary base when you take out the final vehicle (if a turret is shooting at you you're far enough :) ). This will cause the turrets to switch to your side but the enemy immediately is going to attack your mechs, completely ignoring the turrets from that moment on (if you are too far away they instead start taking out the turrets and you lose that help). Create a defensive line and take out the opposition with the help of the turrets, take your time. By the end of the fight start charging a mech with jump jets towards the objective, jump it in there (it can't be shot from the ground level or with LRM's it seems) and done!

One of the hardest missions I've seen so far, but quite fun.

Interesting, I'll try that Crusader. Yeah if I could get them to target my mechs instead of the turrets, I could probably do exactly what you are saying. Didn't know I could do that...

Alright thanks everybody!

Exact mirror of what I did and only just got there with 1 round remaining!

I did this mission with 3 mediums and 1 Heavy. Centurion, Kintaro, Jagermech and Shadow Hawk. The Jagermech and Shadow Hawk were long range fire and flanking support while the Centurion and Kintaro were the close range brawlers that were able to fight in the congested chokepoint.

OP you want to capture the turrets asap so take out the vehicles at the start as quick as you can to do so. Then lure as many mechs forward as possible after gaining the turret control and prioritize taking out the Hunchback or its weapons(right torso) that rushes forward when it gets close to the walls up the ramp. A long range sniper mech with AC/2's and/or AC/5's(hello Jagermech and Blackjack) or PPC's and Large Lasers are useful for this as you have great elevation over the rest of the enemy mechs. Once many of the enemy mechs have pushed forward up to or up the ramp, destroy or cripple as many mechs as you can while you have another mech with jump jets(like the Shadow Hawk) jump down on the left side of the map and make a rush to the control centre but be wary of the Centurion on that left side, if it's dead or crippled though then don't wory about it. Let the remaining turrets that are still standing help you out in doing damage and distracting the enemy mechs during this battle.

Well, I took out all the mechs, and I get up to the drop ship controls with one round remaining..with a mech that has an AC 20 plus some small stuff...

...yet I still can't attack. Even though I'm right next to it.

I don't know what is wrong. I really don't want to have to start my whole game over because of a glich. This is really frustrating.

PS Thanks for everyone who has replied

You can't click on the building to go into attack mode? Bear in mind that since it's on higher ground and surrounded by walls you won't be able to attack it from the low ground.

No, I was right next to it. Literally.

After reloading twice, I was finally able to hit it. I don't know what the difference was after those reloads but it finally worked so I'm going forward and definitely not looking back at that mission!

Again, thanks all who tried to help!

You can't sensor lock buildings so you need a LOS to it from one of your mechs and then you can rain down LRMs indirectly and fire at it by the LOS mech.

I know you've done it now, but for anyone else I jump jetted up onto the hill right nearby it (With a little rushing Panther I think) and could shoot it over the wall with M Lasers.

I had to ignore a lot of the enemy mechs but I managed to pilot kill the Dragon, pretty chuffed and it's my baby now.

A month late, but yes, I've had the same issue. I click on the pilot then click on the mech to have them stand in place and when I click on the building (Panzyr, but this also was the issue with the gate to the prison mission) and the pilot's avatar goes dark meaning their turn is over.

No idea what the issue it, bug/glitch, whatever. I had 4 turns left and no enemies. The building was just unclickable. I'll try a reload, but if anyone knows of a fix by now, I'm appreciative.

When there are no enemies the default move condition is Sprint, which immediately ends your turn no matter how far you move. You have to manually select move or attack

Haven't tried that. Didn't realize that. Great insight. Thank you, Brax.
