MGs any reason to use them?
I think MGs could need a huge buff like from 15 dmg up too 25.
The Small Lasers dont need ammo and deal 20 dmg. Their heat isnt an big issue.

Thoughts?

I am using a Catapult K2 wit 2 PPCs and 4 S Lasers atm. There is a sweet spot where I can fire all of those at an enemy with 80-95% chance too hit. I also use this K2 a lot in melee combat.

Would you rather use MGs there?

i wouldnt. just because i dont know how u play and what u prefer.
mgs are good vs ammo based mechs because of high crit chance.
flamer are good vs energy based mechs.
slaser good to melt armor on enemys mech.

if u have problems with the last bit of hit take the mgs. the do a great job for armorless and ammo based mechs.

mgs have a huge chance to crit. if u shot at any point without armor this little beast blow all away ^^

and it generate absolutely no heat... so compared to small laser they are quite ok

MGs are really effective on lights and mediums you melee vehicles with later on, as often you open up the armor but don't destory the sturcture on the beefier stuff that doesn't have armor debuffs.

As someone stated above, MG's are fantastic at crit seeking. So loading them up on a melee mech that can punc armor off, then having them break all the stuff inside is great.

Or, pair a heavy support weapon mech like the Grasshopper (6 support slots) with an LRM boat. The LRM boat sandpapers off the armor on the entire enemy mech, and then the MG's blow up all of the items inside.

I plan on going MG's instead of flamers if I get a Grasshopper ever.

Could you name some good melee mechs? What would consider to be an ideal mech for melee?

Lymark,

As mentioned by Darbie, the Grasshopper is incredible.

I have mine specced out with 2x Arm Actuator + modules (1t each +10 melee each)
Added the gyro module to reduce stability damage, replaced the LRM5 w/ SRM4++ and kept the 4x ML, replaced the LL with a ML, added 2x SLaser ++, 2x Slaser + (need more ++ weapons) & a Flamer ++...

I closed up on a Panther with this beast, first round zeroed the RT, blowing off the arm, second round melee-ed and machine was dead while the PB weapons were still firing!

Machine Guns are good, EXCEPT, you have to buy a full ton of ammo! In tabletop we routinely placed a 1/2t bin and added another MG...

HOPE YOU DEVS ARE READING THESE!

Guess I'm not that far into the game yet then, cause I've never seen those arm modules yet. A melee mech sounds quite useful later in the game.

I really gave the MGs a shot the last few hours ... but i think i ll stick to flamers and SLasers.
They dont seem to work for me.
Clintito Apr 28, 2018 @ 9:30am
I've begun using MGs on some of my mechs hoping to increase my chances of killing the pilots and salvaging whole mechs.

I figure with more shots and little damage there is a better chance of nailing the mech in the head.

Plus once your structure is exposed, those machine guns, while dinky vs amor will absolutely tear through your mech like its made out of wet toliet paper.

headshot is for every weapon hard. skill ur tactics and gunnery. take some hardhitting weapons like ppc++ or ac20++ and called shot in the head and prey ^^

exact this is the mg for.
or in mwo for the disgusting sound xD

With their multi hit mechanics I've been attempting to use them to generate multiple head hits on enemy mechs that haven't been too damaged yet- even the support weapons can get head hits that cause injuries.
