You also can't fire and then move unless you have the second pilot skill unlocked. It's normally move and then shoot, or just shoot and your turn ends.
You can, and will automatically, fire support weapons during a melee attack. Only support weapons can be used in conjunction with a melee attack. Basically, that's the MG and Flamer.
Also, you can change facing and then shoot. If you have braced then this skill will still work. Remember to change your facing so that you can see the enemy, but also so that your most armoured parts are angled toward them. I.e. If your left side is damaged then show your right to the enemy as much as possible while retaining the ability to shoot them with all weapons.
