Most game seem to use either the Documents folder, or a subfolder within it. It's already made easier for the player by default to back them up if they are all in the same location. Better than navigating to every single game folder and backing them up this way.
Doubly so since the sub folder within a game folder is usually called something non descriptive like "saves" or "savegames" while getting them from the window Document folder not only already organizes the names for you, it also (often) backs up your game settings and custom keybinds, etc.
Seems better in every way to me, if you make it a point to back them up from time to time, but that applies no matter where they are.
Saving the data in the local folder is actually the old way that can't seem to die. Kind of like .ini files. The old way that worked but now there are better ways. Yet .ini files won't go away completely. Old habits [of programmers] die hard.
Many thanks.
I think this info should be a sticky for the time being. There are lots of people having problems with their save files not showing up in-game when they launch it. Being able to check thif they are actually there or not would be helpful to them.
