Alex's work blows so much of the stock BatteTech work out of the water. There's a damn good reason he's become so heavily used by PGI, Catalyst games, and HBS.

He's taken some absolutely hideous original designs and made them into something respectable.

Excutioner, Gargoyle, Cyclops...the list goes on and on.

I grew up with BattleTech, and I'm still astonished by people that think some of the original designs were better. Back when it was NEW, we (me and the people I played it with) were already hoping for better art.

The only FASA designs that were any good were typically the ones they cribbed from anime.

Your opinion is your own, but I'm not about to agree your opinion makes sense to me.

You remind me very much of a young fella I know at one of my local game stores. He had a very peculiar sense of aesthetic.

Shimmering Sword's work is definitely good (he along with flyingdebris/Alex are my two favorites), but it is in no way the original work.

And here's Alex's illustration[files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com] for it (which did lose some flash in the translation to a 3D model).

Yeah, the MWO crew doesn't always translate his work to mesh as cleanly as we could prefer, but to call his work garbage? Yeah, I'm never going to agree with you on that.

I like how that was your first Gundam image. There's a LOT of variety in Gundam. Saying something looks like it belongs in Gundam is like saying "it's kinda robot-y".

I played Battltech back in middle school (mid 80s) every weekend. D&D, Battlech and a whole lot of no girls. I kinda miss the cardboard cutouts though. I'm cautiously enthused.

Same here 80's a lot.. late 90's it vanished in Australia. (No girls here either then.)

There were a few girls who played Shadowrun and palladium games though.

We had a couple of girls who played Battletech in the late 80's but one started dating one of the guys and when they broke up she didn't come back. The other one ended up getting tired of the sexual innuendos and jokes about "the inferior sex" as trash talk so she left too. It was ten years before I met another woman who even heard about Battletech.
