But this is based off of the board game with lots of the mechanics coming from that. There are quite a few changes, but the essence is still there.
For this game, heat management is a big factor. There are no action points or counter attacks/interrupts. Facing matters as far as where you'll take the hits and where you are likely to hit your opponent. It is still random for where you hit though, but you can tip the scales in your favor.
Mechs are customizable as far as weapons, heat, armor, and jumping go, but not for speed or for weight. Each mech has it's own weight limit in 5 ton increments and it cannot be changed.
I read somewhere that for back then, if you wanted a good BT video game, then play Front Mission 3.
(also, the mech customization is different - you don't put together whatever arm/leg/torso you want, you salvage/capture entire mech chassis and can alter their armor/weapon loadouts/equipment.)
(goes to see if Front Mission 3 is on steam....)
edit: looks like Front Mission Evolved is the only one here, which based on the reviews is not what I'm looking for... Ah, well, maybe on GoG!
(I don't think there were ever PC versions of the other Front Mission games. Outside of running a Playstation emulator, that is.)
edit: and it looks like FM3 and FM Evolved are the only ones on PSN. And only on the PS3, not the PS4. /sigh
FM Evolved was kind of a fun shooter, but it definitely could have been better. I enjoyed it well enough, but cannot say I'd recommend it either.

That one is... An action oriented 3rd person turn based game, like valkyria chronicles but with front mission esque mechs.

Hm that's a "new" proper trailer for the 2nd game that I didn't even know about before trying to find videos for this post, this one is a proper front mission turn based clone with fully destructible environment and modern flashy UI.

Here's how phantom brigade gameplay look like, a proper front mission clone.
well, I might be in luck then - my only console is an aging PS3 that mostly gets use as a blu-ray DVD player for the projector in the movie room. Wonder if I can find a used copy locally somewhere... :)

:)
honestly just go emulate FM4 and 5 with a PS2 emulator. Great games for mech fans, surprised a BT fan hasn't played it. I am sure you will enjoy.
so i´d say, sure... there are some resemblences :)
