How annoying (The Titan contract)
Got an interesting new contract - The Titan:

1 skull, Defend base. . . from an Assault mech.
(Darius: "This is a terrible idea." :D)

Mission went great - took out the vanguard force quickly (Locust + Centurion), and then got attacked by a 3/4-armor Highlander 733P. We blew it's leg off, blew it's side torso off, got my melee-mod Firestarter behind it, took no appreciable damage at all. . .

But I forgot the mission timer. I "succeeded" in defending the base for 10 turns, so the mission ended. Just before I could actually finish killing the damn Assault mech. So no salvage. /sigh

My one attempt at this contract I didn't even get an assault (let alone the 2 they said after I landed). I ended up with 8 enemy mechs ranging from 30 to 50 tons apiece. It didn't go well. :steamfacepalm:

Wish I could have heard the radio chatter for that. The cavalry comes riding in to save the day only to get cussed out by the mercs for "kill stealing!"

Hah! Got a similar mission (Titan Attack), with the complication "Whoops, it's TWO assault mechs this time!" But since it was 1 skull, it was two 3/4-armor Banshees approaching from different directions (it was the same Jungle base defense map used in the Hatchetman FP)

And I managed to pilot-kill both of them. :D One by injury, the second I blew the head off (lucky LLas shot the first round, followed by three turns of 5% Precision Shots)

So, woohoo! Early Assault mech, even with my difficulty set to 4 parts! On the other hand - it's a Banshee. :D

My first attempt went south hard, black knight killed one of my meds on the first round it said "hello ♥♥♥♥♥"

The original comment about the mission just ending is right though, it's a little disjointed! Needs some scripting to warn you the last round has started, just so you know whether to bother trying to finish them off or not.

There is a counter on the screen. Read it

HAH! I love this mission, I Just started a new career and ran into this for the first time on the very first planet I flew to after finishing the start planets half skull mission trash for the points and flying one jump just to mod mechs without wasting time. Caught me an atlas on day 16ish of new game. The trick was starting on mining planet with AC/10+ and getting lucky with a headshot. Timer was close but I got luckier! :steamhappy:

Thanks Captain Obvious, we know there is a timer (as a tiny little number in the list off to the side).
It's still rather jarring when in the middle of combat standing literally 10 metres from your enemy going hammer and tongs you suddenly get a popup "missions accomplished" and it's all over.
From a purely technical standpoint, yes it works, that doesn't mean it feels at all immersive and can't be improved!

I guess at this point the attacking force gets order to retreat and the game just ends the mission since objective is complete. I suppose it would be fun if the enemy actually had to retreat and you could now shoot them in the ass as they run to the edge of the map. Unless there is some legal MRB reason why mercs cant shoot retreating opfor or something? Is there? If there is it would be funny to have darius mention it at some point to explain the abrupt mission complete screens.

Any planet but it seems to be a low skull mission. I think it came with 1.8 never seen it before that but then I never hang around the low skull planets for long. Seems to be one of the new mission types. Just read the mission descriptions of defend base type missions it should mention an assault mech despite the low tonnage rating of the mission.
