Need Advice on the Icebox Mission
I can barely get inside the prison without losing one mech and a bunch of limbs :(

Would Locust or Spider be a better Light mech for the mission?

yeah you commonly can face down 8 enemies on a mission. if your 4 guys are stock guys its not good odds.

unless you severely outweigh them.

you might win, but the damage done to your units is going to be expensive.

if you have the $$ you can actually buy Banshee 3M from the stores if you are lucky/reroll shops. they aren't TOO expensive just like 4 million C-bills.

considering late game I'll throw down 4 million C-Bills to buy a heat exchanger off the black market doesnt seem too much of a hurdle

Argo = full medium lance (mostly shadowhawks/griffions/wolverines)
Weldry = full heavy lance (varies, but usually mostly thunderbolts set up akin to the 5SE with jump jets)

After that I move on up to assaults for the rest through grinding / leveling pilots and boosting my company to have backups and not so fiscally unstable

If you can't do these really easy story missions with the starting lance you're just bad at this game, period.

I rush through the first 2 story missions ASAP, which means that I usually do Weldry without the Centurion as it takes quite a while to equip him.

That being said, Weldry is still pretty easy with just the Blackjack, Vindi, Shadowhawk and Spider. All you have to do is go west, destroy the generators, destroy the incoming vehicles while keeping your mechs out of line of sight of the remaining turrets, destroy the two turrets that are left on your side, destroy the remaining generators. That's it for the first part, and is really easy to do.

When approaching the fortress, make sure to kill their scout immediately, so the opposing lance doesn't have a line of fire on your mechs. Kill off the mediums while trying to get some injuries on the JagerMech. I can usally salvage the JagerMech, so it becomes my first heavy in the lance. It's a straight upgrade to the Blackjack, which is still a very good medium mech, even with stock loadout.

Only problem when trying to salvage the JagerMech will be Kamea who loves to PS the Center Torso once the Mech falls over, so you have to be quicker than her in order to pick it up.

Duster47, give up now. Save yourself incredible frustration, anger and waste of time. The game is deliberately designed too hard. You collect forty seven mechs, but you can only land four. Meanwhile, the enemy comes at your four limit with nineteen vehichles, forty seven lights and eighty nine Assault mechs. don't waste any more of your life on this Broken game.

No. The word you're looking for here is *smart*. And, yes it is.

Yeah, not sure why you are fielding a light mech when you could be fielding a Blackjack. The tonnage lets you pull off much better weapon combinations, even going just for stock loadouts.

I've run 4xML and 2xMG on the Blackjack and used it as my finisher once my other boats knocked folks down with missiles. I've run 2xML 1xPPC in place of the PPC on the Vindicator (did you know you can run 5xML on that Vindicator? Its a great early game platform).

Between those two, my Centurion outfitted with LRMs and my Shadowhawk turned into a SRM machine, the only hard part of the Ice Box was needing to rush inside after Her Royal Highness decided to charge an enemy Lance by her lonesome.

I normally send my lance up the middle with jump jets to take out the generators on the hill. Then I gather my lance together and the next round I take out the remaining generators (jumping into cover so with bulwark and max evasion the tanks can't really do much). The round after that I kill the tanks. Then move into the compound from side that's closer to where the enemy lance spawns. I precise shot the CT on the Jaggermech first (it's armor is made of paper and it's a rather mediocre heavy mech), then I wipe out the Jenner so the Trebuchet and Centurion can't use indirect LRM fire. After that I wait for those two to come into range (and refill my resolve meter) and then I precise shot them down as well.
