Campaign with Roguetech
Hey everyone,

so, I've tried starting the Restoration-Campaign with the mod installed but I can't find it, lol.
I can only chose between career and skirmish. And both of them aren't the campaign, are they?

What am I doing wrong?

Ah, ok.

Then one stupid question: how do I start a Flashpoint? :D
I've bought the game today and a friend told me that I have to install Roguetech, no matter what ... :)

Eh, that's kind of subjective. Some people really love the mod, some people don't want to use it at all. It's not like the "unofficial patch" mods for Bethesda games, Roguetech makes substantial changes to the gameplay.

Honestly, you should play/learn the game without it first, so you can make an informed decision if it's something you want. (or at least get your friend to give you a more in-depth description of why he thinks it's so 'necessary'. :)

(I've played games with mods for quite awhile, and I almost always try to play the game 'clean' first, so that I know what things I'd like to change. Because mods can do all sorts of things to tweak a game to your own preferences, and my preferences might not be the same as someone else's. I know there's plenty of "must have" mods for Elder Scrolls & Fallout that I've never bothered with.)

re: Flashpoints - over time, as you play, Flashpoints will spawn on the Star Map. Scroll around the map every so often to see highlighted systems, and then click on them to get details about the Flashpoint there.

Did you buy either of the dlcs? Pretty sure you need at least one of them for flashpoints even for ones created by modders.

Flashpoints spawn on the star map in vanilla.

I got to agree with Wesnef. Roguetech completely changes the game. If you have not played the unmodded game then try it first. Because, once you install Roguetech, you are no longer playing Battletech, you are playing a completely new game.

RogueTech is not for Beginner

You should get some basic understanding of the game first, even though we throw vanillas balance and gameplay completly out the window, the basics still apply

RT is designed for a hardcore crowd that want to be challenged

I agree with the above posters, I'd play through at least the vanilla campaign before going with Roguetech. Don't get me wrong, the mod is amazing, but it'll be brutally difficult to get into if you aren't already familiar with the base game.

I completely disagree with Boltergeist, you should finish Vanilla's tutorial and play 10 or 20 missions, but you should stop immediately after that and play only Rogue if that is your intention. Because if you finish the campaign, and if you play Vanilla for too long, you get too attached to the Vanilla meta, and Roguetech is too different, everything you learned in Vanilla goes out the window and is actually the opposite of how you should play Roguetech, even positioning, mech building (into efficient killing machines) an what to target, is totally different. You need to immerse yourself sooner rather than later into the RT mod if you want to have a successful and less painful experience. It takes a lot of time to wash off and reset all that knowledge you gain from finishing Vanilla, trust me.

On the personal level, i hate Roguetech and how it transformed the community, you can no longer get updates on some of the more crucial mods because now those mods surrender to the Roguetech pack, and they only make Roguetech supported patches, their standalone versions of their mods are no longer supported.

The reason i dislike the RT meta however is not because of its impact on the community, its how ridiculously overpowered the evasion meta is, specially early game. At one point long ago it was acceptable when it was nerfed in a significant matter, but then they buffed it again. It's so meta centric that sometimes you might find yourself wishing to get a headshot etc not to disable a mech for salvage but to survive an encounter. It's just too derpy in a sense of choosing to have fun by rolling the dice and seeing if luck favors you in a casino fashion rather than playing by strategy vs a more intelligent AI. Too many people worship RNGesus these days.

For those unaware, Boltergeist is the lead developer of Roguetech. I figured it might be worth stating, before someone says something that embarrasses themselves.

Except everything that is in RogueTech is avaible on their github

Then many of the dll modders are fed up with how some of the community demands them to also do all the work the framework offers

The main reason RogueTech gets these dll's?

I test them, i check them out, i figure out how to employ them beyond what even the coders thought off, i communicate or make them communicate with each other

I dont go on their pages and throw vitriol, i sit here for hours tracking down a nre and then read the code where it may break

Sure i may not always find them, but if i get a reproducable state, i keep trying

I havent got to play in months because i kept testing and testing and testing, and then we get vitriol thrown at us because somehow what we do isnt enough

RogueTech's evasion was way way worse, i dont know what youve been playing, but trying for headshots hasnt been something for months

But then, stupid me keeps tweaking and tweaking and aiming for balance in all aspects

You mean something intentional? :steamsalty:
Can you force the flashpoint to start ? To be more specific, I want to do the campaign before traveling to the rest of the map
Boltergeist Oct 8, 2019 @ 3:14am
No, flashpoints are randomized, but the story chain has a high weight so is very likely to spawn

RogueTech isnt for beginners and if you want the story i highly suggest either BTA or BEX as mods
Kushko Oct 9, 2019 @ 7:13am
Just a question, since this post seems to have people with a lot of mod knowledge. If i wanted to play the story campaign but have it heavily modded (roguetech level of goodies - btw, roguetech looks awesome!), which mod would get the closest to that?

From what I understand RogueTech is career only.

Cheers!

As noted earlier in this thread, the campaign in rogue tech appears as flashpoints. See the post by Steve.
