You can grab copies of them as freeware on the net and have fun.
As to changing the whole underlying structure of this game, well there is no chance of that happening. HBS is developing a turn based game like the table top Battletech but with certain changes to make the game more playable on the computer.

Will wait for Mech Commander 3 then. As long as it takes.
Maybe if Battletech and Mechwarrior 5 sell well it would entice them to re-use or sell the rights to MechCommander, but that means you'd have to buy games that you don't want to play to support the wider genre and make it more attractive as a profitable venture for them.
i absolutely don´t like real time strategy... but i played both MechCommander games because BattleTech ... and i absolutely loved them for what they were, although they weren´t "my genre" at all... maybe, if you get out of your comfort zone this once, you might even enjoy it for the scenario and everything around the combat-style...
just a thought, do what you like of course :)
