Best battletech books
I personally think the way of the clans trilogy and the blood of kerensky trilogy were the best of them all. What do you guys think?

On a side note mechwwarrior darkage was really a crime in my opinion.

The Warrior trilogy will always be my favorite !

Warrior trilogy, closely followed by the Grey Death trilogy for me.
The former setting the sage for the Machiavellian shenangians going on in the IS, the latter setting the scenery for how it is to be a small and later small-ish merce company in the IS.

Warrior Trilogy was written by Stackpole too. He got a bit too much in love with single agent/assassins. But those two trilogies are the best.

I know people are about to get angry.... but I like dark ages - that mix of future tech drones / 200 ton mechs and all kinds of other stuff being held off by 200+ year old scrap heaps just has a feel of flare and desperation - like the infantry who detonated explosives in the woods to trick a enemy into thinking they were getting seismic returns from a atlas sneaking up on them - they then opened fire revealing where they were and got hit by a artillary barrage in return

or like how - patriots stand - a group of miners and rag tag group of mercs hold off a invasion with nothing more then cunning - mining mechs with machineguns versus hover tanks

hell they stole a hover tank with a hole! - dug hole tossed a sheet over it good ole fashion pit trap

the chars just have a flare I'd not seen since early grey death legion - I like that mercs are the cunning ones not just huge groups who nuke stuff with alpha strikes

that said I'm still a bit bitter of Battle Magic getting nuked..... in the jihad

One of my favourite ones was "Wolves on the Border" written by Robert N Charrete. Covers the period of time during which the Wolf Dragoons were under contract with house Kurita. Explains the maneuvres and plots to keep the Dragoons tied to House Kurita or to destroy them. The initial relation of comradeship and final conflict between the Wolf Dragoons and the Genyosha unit. The Escape of the Dragoons to House Davion space, and gives you the reasons why the Dragoons went on a vicious campaign against the Draconis Combine during their next contract with House Davion.

Still remember the part about the Dragoons commando/sabotage unit, and their final stand against the Kurita security forces. Was a very moving read for me back in the day.... how they live/fight and die in the darkness. Their names, their mission and sacrifices unknown but to a few.

Very good read all around

I haven't read too many of the "must read classics" but I can recommend Christopher Kubasik's Ideal War.

What can you recommend except Stapole and decision at the thunder rift.?

Something good but less famous.

Well i only read 2 books, One it took me 3 trys, but like most folks said it was worth it once it got going. (to me it gets better around 100 or so pages in.)

Illusions of victory. The game starts out around solaris, but quickly turns into some faction dispute that devolves into chaos. A few of the characters were really good, and it had enough mech goodness to keep it feeling like battletech. Third time was a charm for this one, once i got past the slow introduction it livened up into a really good book.

Test of Vengeance. I'm actually reading this one now. It's a clan story about an elemental pilot and his off world excursions into combat. It's more action based but it's pretty decent, and more so if you really like clans.

I still gotta read way of the clans though, everyone says those are the best. I guess one day i will see. :)

grey death trilogy is number one for sure wish they would do more wolves on border just bought and read by blood betrayed start of not great but becomes brilliant and start working out what the likly ending is or who by 1/3 through but never really sure till near the end

First three Grey Death Legion novels.
I think they are the best because it is focused on one group of characters, and their little corner of the inner sphere. While the story is focused on Greyson and his mecc unit, you get to learn how the world of Btech works.
