well when someone including you is bleeding the blood/paint balls that pop out are bigger and upon impact with the ground* they will explode and will deal damage...
* any object that is solid water probably** dont count
** i didnt test impact on water its only a guess

When bots die they release a bunch of paintballs into the air that explode when they touch something, it's pretty chaotic.
