How does Smoke in Tank and APC work.

I know that there is the option for tanks and APCs to release smoke, which helps limit bots view when homing rockets, but how and when does it actually release. Is it a player command which releases the smoke, or does it only happen when an enemy is homing on the APC/Tank

Its manually released by like X or something. Also I think they removed smoke from the tanks

Actually, this feature is more important with the Helicopter. By clicking on the button bound to it, you can release flares in the heli to lure away Homing Missiles. (Unless of course it isn't homing and it's a normal rocket or a railgun, then you're f*cked)
