New helicopter control in beta branch is terrible
When i pitch down for full trust without going up, (which is very important to survival) the helicopter automically pitch up to the flying direction. This is very uncomfortable because i have to keep moving the mouse to control the heli. I don't know steelraven want novice players would control the heli easier or make auto-hover feature, but it should be a optional feature like 'toggle auto hovering'. If it won't be fixed ravenfield is now dead for me...

Yes. it's very annoying to keep strafing and do a complacated maneuver in some areas like carrier in archipelago. why he thought this would be a good idea, helicopter controls in other games never had something like this.

Nooooooo. Please, Steelraven, do not mess with the helicopter controls, they were perfect up till now. Actually I preferred the slightly slower rudder response of the pre Steam beta 5 as it seems to mimic the flying of a real chopper better but hey ho.

Flying the Heli is a real joy. Sure it takes a few minutes to get the hang of it, but when you do get the hang of it it's fantastic fun, If the controls are now similar to the plane then that's the fun gone, and that's the reason I never fly the planes.

I could tolerate the control change between steam and pre steam release because it wasn't something that completely ruins my control. But now, the helicopter itself is disturbing my control ! I hate it too, and never fly planes for the same reason. He is currently online in discord, so try saying your opinion to him. He will accept the majority's opinion and change it.

I may agree , as many times I tried to fly, and every time, I crash

That's because you don't know how to fly. Compared to battlefield and ARMA, ravenfield's helicopter is very easy to fly.

OK, I gave the new beta a try last night, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The biggest problem I'm having is losing a lot of lift in certain manoeuvres, even with full collective - tight banking turns, or coming to a dead stop quickly. Basically anything that involves a lot of pitch or bank. However this is closer to what would happen in a real heli, so it may be just a case of adapting.

I didn't experience the heli pitching up as I applied collective, maybe this is something that happens when you're in look mode which I very rarely use longer than a second or two, and then only when in stable flight.

I did prang the heli a few times doing fast stops and precision put downs, not only due to the lack of lift, but probably also to the additional speed the heli has now, so maybe I just need to put a bit of practice to get used to the new handling.

On the other hand flying the heli certainly does not seem to be as fluid as it was. I've got the current and the previous beta on hand so I'll be doing some more comparisons over the coming days.

There was an another beta branch update before you tried it. Yesterday, even the pitch automically moved to the direction, which was the worst. Now, it's better than the previous beta branch but still not as good as the old one. If you strafe, the helicopter also turns the direction to the moving direction. Steelraven said he wanted to simulate winds on aircraft body but in my opinion it's badly implemented.

It feels more like the helicopter itself is turning rather than it's moving by the wind. Turning to the opposite direction just because i moved the pitch to up is ridiculous. I don't remember other games like battlefield 2 or ARMA had this. Now strafing have many restrictions and lots of maneuvers that was possible with the old helicopter control are now dead. It lacks of the fun of riding that old helicopter control had. If he is planning to keep auto turning to simulate the wind on aircraft body, the movement speed need to be slowed down at least. it goes extremely fast way too easily that it's very hard to control altitude.
Considering flying high is basically a death wish for helicopters and low flying with avoiding obstacles fast are always required to survive, this is a bad change.

I've been playing around and done a quick video of low level Archipeligo - no sound though

The flying is probably a bit scrappy compared to some of you guys, but I think it shows that the new controls are handleable through a variety of manoeuvres. However you may notice that when I'm at speed I'm having to fight a little with the rudder due to the new "wind shear" effect

Have you tried the new pre beta 6 helis? We are complaining about that

So i see it now too, for me more than the hovering i HATE the way it moves in bumpy places, i think he put it in as realistic but even though im not a engineer making helis id bet that stuff controled by the computer

But it still make some maneuvers nearly impossible, so i can't do a play like this video anymore. https://youtu.be/A1PAZl5MJdg
I won't complain about it anymore though. The new helicopter control is probably the way steelraven really wanted in this Game, so i won't ruin his plan. I can play battlefield 2 with AIX mod instead. Flying notar little bird never gets old.

Dudes i got a very comfortable configuration for the heli, just set

Heli sensitivity
(this is how you like the most, i actually set it on 1.0)

Heli Throttle Up/Down
W | S

Heli Pitch Forward/Back
Mouse Y- | Mouse Y+

Heli Roll Left/Right
A | D

Enjoy:)

This issue is solved long time ago. I don't like using keyboard for Roll, mouse is more natural as it's suppossed to be flight stick.
