How to access what I'm carrying?

OK, I bought this and managed to get it running on Win 10, new build. The secret seemed to be finding realmyst.exe and making sure it was running with XP compatibility. And letting it run 800x600. And forgetting about windowed mode.

And I've figured out how to move around.

But I have a note I picked up in the library, and I can see it in the lower left-hand corner. Am I supposed to be able to read it or do anything with it? Can't click it with the cursor because moving that way just spins my view around.

The only user guide I found was for ME, and that's no help.
