Bug? Can't turn furnace off for Treelevator to Channelwood **possible spoilers**
I've managed to light the furnace for the treelevator to channelwood, but now I am stuck. I know I need to turn off the furnace so the treelevator can drop for me to jump in, but I can not turn off the furnace.

The problem seems to be interacting with the wheel that controls the furnace pressure. I can hover the cursor over a small area of screen to get the interaction indicator to pop, but if I click/spam click/hold click no animation occurs and the furnace does not react. Has anyone had this issue and solved it?

Try verifying the game cache;
Right-click on the game in your Steam library, select properties, select the local files tab, and click “Verify Integrity of game cache”.

If that does not work try using compatability mode

Try using compatibility mode.
[whatever drive you have it on C for most people] -> Program Files [It might be Program Files (x86)] - Steam -> steamapps -> common -> realMyst. That could be entirely wrong depending on where you installed it to, but basically you have to find the realMyst folder. Within that folder, find the application. It should end in .exe. Right-click it and select properties. Click on the compatibility tab, try setting it to win xp service pack 3, if that does not fix the problem also try vista and me. Windowed mode also can help.

Note that when buying older games you are better off getting them from gog.com instead of steam. They will update the games themselves to try to keep them compatable with newer systems, so they are less likely to have issues from them.

Thanks for the walkthrough. No luck with either the cache verification or the compatibility modes. (I had tried them before the post, realized I had forgot to mention it in the original post, then tried all your suggestions anyway thinking I could just be an idiot. I wish I were just an idiot because I haven't managed to fix the game :( ).

I think your suggestion regarding gog.com may be my best and only option. I only wish I knew about it before.

Rock on Noitalever.

You are welcome. There is also a masterpiece edition out as well, forgot to mention that. It is fairly new so it does not have compatability issues;

I didn't turn the furnace off. When the tree elevator was up high I just clicked to turn the wheel again and it came back down and I jumped in to go down to the room.
