Austro-Hungary - German as language
Can we please have german speaking austro hungary? The official language was german, and the emperor Franz Joseph himself was from austria too. I'd be fine if they mix languages, so you once speak german, another time hungarian. Please make this happen. Kinda kills the Austro-Hungary vibe for me, although its a great game already. And IF you take german, please not german german, but austrian german. This would be very enjoyable to see. Any thoughts? :alpen:

A mod in an earlier thread mentioned that a German speaking A-H squad isn't out of the question. But just for this I would at least like to say that having a multi lingual squad doesn't make much sense. One that speaks German, and another, Hungarian is fine, but when you would put them all in one place that would lead to complete confusion. They wouldn't understand each other, and even worse, couldn't work as a military unit.

Basically, a squad should keep to one language.

Gameplay wise, yes. But exaclty that was the case in WWI. Austro Hungarian armies had so many different languages that it was often the case that many didn't even understand orders or could obey them, because of that exact reason. But I think if it's called K.u.K Trupp in the first place, german suits it better. I'm sure if they add the Bosniaks they will speak bosnain. So why not make the K.u.K Trupp speak german, and an Hunagrian squad, can't think of an hungarian squad at the moment, speaks hungarian. Would make more sense, in my opinion.

I agree, to some extent, especially for the KuK, although the officers were required to be multilingual and the men in the heat of battle may well revert to their native language, so while German was the language of command, it's not inconceivable that you would hear others.

I'd quite like to see maybe a Honved squad made of Hungarians.

Yes, that's what i'd say too. It would make more sense if it was like that. But I guess It's too complicated to add a bilingual squad to the game.

Yea, the K.u.K offers many variations, that's what I like about them. Austrian, Hungarian, Bosnian, Ukrainian... I hope we will see a few of them in the future.

Maybe when a squad is first made a random language is chosen? Then it continues until the squad dissolves.

The Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1914, had 11 major languages spoken within its borders. Everything from German and Hungarian to stuff like Slovene and Ruthenian. So something like a randomizer at the beginning of a match would do the trick; just cycling between all 11 languages and cultures. But I can only imagine that that would be a lot of probably unneccessary work. For right now, I think we should just appreciate that the developers actually implemented something unique. Besides, Hungary, which only made up around 42% of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, ended up contributing a little over half of the soldiers that A-H sent into the field, so an all Hungarian squad is a not unclever way of accurately representing the historical situation without having to find a bunch of people who speak early 20th Century Ruthenian.
If there would be an austro-hungarian squad named Stösstrupp, it would have German on its language.
Also, Germany would get squad Uhlans or Jäger, for scouting force of the Central Powers.
Russia would have assault troop named Sapernaja Shturmovoi and more sentry-like Morskaja Pehota, that will have mostly foreign weapons like Arisaka models M1897, M1902 and M1905.

Intresting thought. But I'd say Ulan or Gebirsjäger would fit Austria More. For example, the Tiroler kaiserjäger or something like that.

Yea, a randomizer would be nice, yet probably very complicated. Didn't know that Hungary send that many troops out, wow. But I just feel like having it speak german/ having one in the future would be cool, as the Empire was strongly driven by the Habsburgs. But thats ptoblaby my innern patriotism coming through ^^
