Things on front of cossack's uniform
After seeing the new cossack photos, I was wondering what the black cylinders on the front of the uniform were. They're arranged into 2 rows, one on each side. At first I thought they were cartridges until I saw the mosin clips in the sash thing.

The cherkesska is a descendent of the chokha, the traditional Georgian uniform. Both feature characteristic ornamental cartridge holes (masri, in Georgian) which hold ornamental bullets (masrebi in Georgian, gaziri in Cossack). These are ornamental imitations of the real paper cartridges used in the musket era.
