Block/parry again makes melee pointless, shooting will be a more effective and reliable method as they can not block that or kill you because they pressed a button after you.
1-hit kills are good, I agree, but melee battles are too short.
Every time I use melee, I always do terribly. As Zorro, I use my bayonet to try and kill someone, only to sit there and wait for the animation to finish as they flick around and shoot me.
How does making blocking and parrying make melee pointless? The point of it is to deflect and dodge enemy melee attacks. Of course it does nothing to counter gunfire. WHEN DID I SAY THAT? I am talking about melee battles. As of now, melee is broken, unbalanced, and reliant on luck.
Because as I said it means it's not a reliable way to kill someone. Shooting is much more effective as they can not block that. As you complain that they just shoot you when you try to melee this will make that a lot more common.
Agree with Luna on melee weapons shouldn't have two-hit-kills.
It's been suggested for Verdun to increase bashing some, so a severely wounded player can be taken down by a single bash. (Which I think is a good suggestion, and wouldn't mind it in Tannenberg either)
I would only suggest changing up bayonets some.
Instead of being able to stab at any close distance, a bayonet would only attempt to lock on if the target is in front. (Almost directly in front, but give a few degrees.)
If the target gets around the bayonet and gets within 1m from the player, the stab would turn into a bash.
(Hopefully that makes sense, I can sketch something up later.)
I am not talking about guns at all. Why do you keep bringing them up? I am talking about melee fights against another player. Blocking attacks would make a melee fight last longer than one second, and bring proper skill to melee combat. As a melee player myself, it is rather easy to get close to an enemy, but the lock-on mechenic often causes me to just sit there and do nothing as I am shot to death.
Why do you keep bringing up guns? I am talking about melee/melee battles. As of now, melee takes no skill. Just who can press the attack button last wins. Melee battles should be long and intense, not over in a few seconds.
Seriously. Stop bringing up guns. I am talking about two melee fighters battling each other. No guns at all.
How would YOU make melee less clunky, boring, and unusable then? How would you make melee fights longer and less stupid?
BF1 is REALLY good at melee indeed. All the different melee weapons are not just reskins, and have their own feel to them. Bayonet charges are fun, and can be useful sometimes.
They also reward players for teamwork and doing the objectives. In Verdun, I constantly see people lagging behind a charge in Frontlines and just picking kills from afar.. [Edited:] Seems like BF1 awards 20 points per kill and 1000 per objective capture (500 for capture and some extras as well)
I wouldn't make them last longer, that will directly clash with the other issues you have. Longer they are the more clunky it will be and unuseable.
Currently I'd refine the existing mechanic making the lock on and animations better, mainly more force in the animation and smoothing it.
