I mean, not all of the battles were skermishes like that in the east. There's also the battle where the Germans and Russians had a ceace fire to deal with some wolves that were attacking them while they fought. That particular fight was mostly from trenches if I recal correctly.
The wolves story stems from winter when there wasn't huge amount of fighting any way.
I could see that working, and it would make it so that you use more of the actual fort, rather than the tiny bit that you actually get to play in in the Fort Douaumont map in Verdun.
To be honest, the tiny bit of wall that you fight over in Douaumont would be at least 2 secters. One for both main entrances. Maybe also one for the middle of the hall.
