Wasn't this game going to be free?
I've seen some info about RHL off and on over the years and I distinctly remember mention of it being free upon release. Not complaining, just wondering. Does it have a price tag during EA to assist the team and it'll be F2P later on or will the price tag remain?

Personally, I'd prefer if the game remained B2P if it meant less predatory MTX. Deep Rock Galactic might be a good example to follow, with all its DLC being cosmetic while there still being a lot of fashionable loot to unlock through gameplay. Just a thought, though.

The plan has always been Free to Play upon full release.

Oh, I see. But has that changed in any way? As a fellow Brazilian, I understand where Mark's coming from, but I also grew to despise the F2P model the more B2P games I got. That is the best way to make an online game nowadays for a myriad of reasons, but it's not the only way that works for both the developers and players. DRG is a great example of an online game with an initial price tag that respects the player's money past that initial purchase.

Anyhow, are there any microtransactions in the game currently? Anything that hints at what 1.0 might look like in that regard?

The only hint to the types of MT's are in the Time Store. Unlocking all characters early is just one of them. Others include cosmetics. The crystals can still be earned but at an extremely slow rate, typical of your very grindy way. You can't use any real money as the store is under development.

We're still in the process of evaluating the game's monetization model. Many things have changed since the beginning of the project when we envisioned it as F2P, so we're assessing all possible scenarios. We do not want to implement any predatory models for our players, but it also needs to be sustainable for us as a studio

Boy if that whole statement doesn't just scream "expect many predatory and or P2W mtx by and after release" nothing does.

Ive had this on my wishlist for a long time, but that statement alone just makes me question why I keep it there.

They already addressed the monetization of the game back in August...

they stated weeks ago that they ain't putting any mtx (they already removed the shop in the latest update and made all cosmetics be obtainable by just playing) but instead make the final release a 20 bucks game and they already removed the always online requirement and the live service stuff is gone as well

As we already posted last month, RHL will not have microtransations, the game will be a premium title priced $20 at 1.0 release.

My last statement was precisely because we were evaluating whether we would go with a premium model or stick to our promise of a F2P model and put efforts into creating a fair microtransaction system.

We’ve promised this throughout the years of development, but as we mentioned in the post, we currently don’t have the resources to dedicate our team to developing this model. That’s why we believe it’s better for both the game and us to go premium—this way, our team can focus solely on improving the in-game experience.

We understand that many people were expecting the F2P model, and that’s why we made this decision with great care and consideration.

Well, me, personally, i am happy that You are going the premium title route. Live service games tend to ''kill'' themselfes before the game is even released because of going that way. And i am even more happy that we have an offline version now, i really like this game, and if i will be able to play it as a single player game, even better, since it's hard to take my friends away from LoL or Valorant ...
