Can no longer play after enabling cross platform play
Hi there,

Just as the title implies, I enabled cross platform play. But now each time I try to set up a single player game, or host a multiplayer game, my screen just goes blank and I get booted back to the menu I was before a second later.

I also can't join multiplayer lobbies since none show up now. Does anyone know how I can potentially fix this? Or turn cross platform play off?

I am having the exact same issue as you. Does anyone happen to know the location of the file where the enabled crossplay setting is saved?
From from my own thread on the subject:

Ok, I've found a fix that worked for me. It doesn't let me use Cross-play, but I can at least disable it to get the game operational again.

1. First in your steam library go to Risk Of Rain 2->right->Manage->Browse Local Files. Navigate to Risk of Rain 2_Data\Plugins\x86_64.

2. Cut and past EOSSDK-Win32-Shipping.dll and EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll somewhere safe.

3. Navigate back to the main Risk of Rain 2 folder and run Risk of Rain 2.exe. DO NOT RUN IT THROUGH STEAM. IT WILL NOT START IF YOU RUN IT THROUGH STEAM. Now, the game should load as normal.

4. If still does not load, try restarting it a few times through the executable, steam, etc. It disn't work the first time for me. It may be that the game needs to least start in order to fix some broken files.

5. Once the game is loaded, don't mess around in this this state. We've removed DLL files. The game may be may be unstable. Go straight to Settings and find the option to disable crossplay. Disable it and return to the main menu.

6. Quit the game. Restore the EOSSDK-Win32-Shipping.dll and EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll files to their original locations in Risk of Rain 2_Data\Plugins\x86_64. If you're still worried you've messed something up in the game files, you can validate the game files through Steam.

7. The Game should once again start through Steam. Obviously, do not enable Crossplay again until the devs work out the kinks.

NOTE: While figuring out this fix, I also noticed Risk of Rain 2_Data\Managed\EOS.dll, When I try removing it, the game will simply flash the loading screen and crash out at 0%. However, if my method does not work for you you may try messing with it.

How often did you restart untill it finally started? I've tried 6 times already and it doesn't progress past 0%
You're not starting through Steam, are you? That's the only step that I'm a bit uncertain about. Prior to getting the game working, I'd tried several other fixes, including downloading the previous version of the game and trying to start with that (didn't work, by the way). Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it it could have been any number of things which triggered it. Maybe try removing Risk of Rain 2_Data\Managed\EOS.dll for a few startups. The game will crash, but maybe that will help fix the files.

I tried several different things, I used the .exe from the folders, but also from steam when that didn't work. I'm really no computer guru, so I'm pretty clueless here.
Hmmm. It does seem to be affecting systems differently. Sorry to be unhelpful. It may just be that I got lucky. Did you make sure to remove BOTH EOSSDK-Win32-Shipping.dll and EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll? It didn't work if I just removed one.
Maybe try removing JUST EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll for a few restarts, since I think that I did that before trying to remove both.

I actually just tried that. I tried to win64 first and when that didn't work I did the win32 one. It actually let me boot up the game and let me turn off the cross platform play. I think its ok now? Thank you very much!
Glad I could help! Out of curiosity, are you on 32 bit or 64 bit windows?

Oh, I'm on 64bit

If anyone else encounters this, it may be that you have an old version of Epic Games Store installed. Maybe try updating or uninstalling it.
