steamworks authentication failed or was revoked

I get kicked from games with friends after less than a minute of playing with this error message.

That message indicates that the game is having trouble connecting to steam's authentication servers. There's a steam support page that details some solutions for it here:

My game seems fine now, I think it was just good ol Tuesday night Steam servers
