Tips for Unlocking Rex?

I'm aware of what I need to do to unlock Rex, but I'm having a little trouble doing it. Any notable tips?

You can cheese it if you do a multiplayer match as a Retool Mul-T. Pick up the cell from your friend's pod and switch weapons, this will prevent the cell from blowing up since it is not your active equipment.

Activate a newt shrine on stage 3 so you can ensure you get the right stage 4 zone.

Avoid Blood Shrines.

Play on Drizzle with the character you have gotten the most good with.

Play with friends who are willing to do all the work as you play keep away.

Yea multiplayer as Retool Mul-T is best way, its worth noting that praying at a newt altar doesn't give you a 100% chance at Abyssal depths.

Since none of my friends play, I used Engineer to do it. His shield is good for avoiding damage from attacks that would make the fuel cell blow up, and turrets taking a little aggro off him can also be helpful. What's really important is that you use whatever character you are best at not taking too much damage with, so Engineer may not be the best for everyone.

Play a character with lots of mobility. Both stage 3s have a newt altar that spawns 100% of the time, so you can use that to dream for abyssal depths (though there's a chance you get the other 2 stages in the dream pool, meaning it's not 100%).
Play on drizzle since the difficulty scales less and you get 70 armor.
Play with artifact of command on if you have access to it because it will make you more powerful.
Don't hit pain shrines
Avoid damage as much as possible

I can’t tell you how many times this ruined it for me.
Also another tip, wait until AFTER downing the area 1 boss before picking it up. The very early segments can be some of the most dangerous depending on who you play as and how rng treats you with enemy spawns (hi loader getting swarmed with tons of wisps early)

oh yeah, that's a good one. I always forget to do that. Also, immediately try and find an equipment barrel when you spawn in so that you can get rid of the equipment for most of the future stages too

I did it on drizzle changing equipment as soon as I could in every stage, taking the cell again after killing the boss

I ended up doing it Single Player with Huntress on Normal difficulty. Going easy or multiplayer just felt "cheaty" to me, personally. That's just my own opinion though.
