There was a reddit thread that had made a decent lore prediction at Mithrix being Providence's brother, long story short they both stumbled upon the planet, Mithrix wanted to destroy or contain it in the void. Providence wanted to protect it at all costs, Providence strayed him on the moon by destroying a teleporter instead of killing him.
His title as king of nothing comes from how he rules over a dead moon, with the only inhabitants being creations of his own for a war that never came to be.
My guess/hope is that the Mithrix fight is the "bad ending", while obliteration is the neutral ending. The good ending would require to revive the heretic and then fight Mithrix or something similar: while Mithrix looks like he doesn't have many connections with the rest of the game, the heretic has more of them, so it would make sense for the game to have more meaning in that regard.
The lore made it pretty clear the final boss would be someone calling Providence "brother" but also gave absolutely no other details about it. It could have been anything/anyone, which is all the more disappointing all we got was an almost entirely grey dude on a grey level with 2 monster per square kilometer.
And it's also disappointing because it doesn't explain what the whole heretic's stuff (also on the moon apparently) is all about.
I don't know, maybe I was just expecting too much. The first game was pretty cryptic and it can be fine to stay vague but I had hoped we'd get more details.
about the heretic I want to believe that once we got the 2 remaining parts(in future updates) the survivor will tranform into the heretic. is basically an hidden character(maybe with a cool passive ability) or the heretic will appear as a boss.
I think we all got the -who the hell is this guy- moment.
and one note about the chimeras constuctions. it would be cool to have the chimera version of guardian golem and normal golem. that moon floating part will fit so well.
i dont think the boss is a place holder- too much time spent animating it and things like that.
I think they prioritize content over lore - they really should have put something to focus on the moon -like in the fields on in the 5th level a couple of steeles with the boss or his hammer drawn somewhere. I mean seriusly.
It shows on the bottom left corner of the screen, like an "[_] orb has appeared" message.
Not to mention the other logs (specifically A Moment: Fractured and Bulwark's Amby) that include someone talking to their brother, which in this case, is possibly Mithrax, or maybe Mithrax IS the one talking in these logs.
You guys just need to pay attention more to the bottom left side of the screen.
Maybe it'll be in some of that post-game content.
