Interstellar desk plant has several use cases, definitely an F tier Red Item 90% of the time, but not as bad as people say. War Bonds doesnt do enough for what it is, and it breaks sometimes and wont even give you money. War Bonds definitely feels like a crap Red

did you 2 forget raincoat existing?

i understand ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mask is so underwhelming that people forget it exists until they get disappointed by it showing up but lets not call something with an actual effect useless now

true its quite funny that war bonds does litterally nothing (especually late game cus gold scales exponetally)

I try not to think about Raincoat after they nerfed it into Oblivion. But it also still has a use in keeping Malachite off you late game. Id rather have that than War Bonds

I got War Bonds on Stage 1 and it was pretty great but if not for that exact scenario, Its not worth it later on. It should be a green item or get a different income passive effect that makes it worth it as a red.

Is war bonds good with some of the goofy xp synergism items like the lunar and prayer beads?

Desk plant is good tho, unlike frost relic, wake of vultures, aegis (most of the time), and happiest mask

No, not really. War bonds doesn't activate consistently and has overall less yield than Ghor's tome when it does due to only being worth 2 small chests of cash on it's single activation on stage start. Meanwhile sales star, another green, can yield a similar type of economy effect but is infinitely more impactful to a run since if you use it on a guaranteed legendary chest you get two red items.

War Bonds (red) does what Stack of Pennies (white) or Ghor's Tome (green) does but worse. Bother of those lower tier items will give you more than needed on the first wave of spawns (that is pre-spawned at the start of each stage), but also scale the entire stage. War Bonds is neither powerful nor unique. If you have either of the other 2 items, you can scrap war bonds and hope for a printer/cauldron.

Raincoat is much better than people give it credit for. Hating on it is meme/troll from when it was changed from it's extremely op release to the current still-op-if-you-understand-it iteration. Its still seriously like B or even A tier, but people meme hate it because it was S++ when it released.

aegis is S tier. Its essentially an extra OSP on top of being a health multiplier. All you need is a single bungus/rungus.

War bonds is the only red I'd full on call useless. Like, sure, some are clearly more impactful than others, but War bonds is the only item that shares a niche with items that are lower in rarity AND it gets decidedly and aggressively outperformed by. All the others either have unique effects that drastically improve their niche or have effects which can supplement specific characters more beneficially than others. For example, Desk Plant is a healing category item, but in the hands of Merc, engi, or captain, or other characters who are generally good at standing their ground or steady advancing, it can be pretty useful.

Its actually pretty good if its the very first item you get tho no one is going to have the crazy rng i had with it.

Youd get more money from a Ghors tome almost guaranteed, and its not hard to get exponentially more money early from a roll of pennies. You get set on fire or bled 2 or 3 times and that alone will give you around 200-300 dollars with a single roll of pennies, which is more money than War Bonds gives you coming into stage 2.
On top of that, it doesnt even do anything when you get it, unlike Ghors tome and pennies, so it doesnt matter if its your first item on a stage or your last (its actually worse if its your first, since it does nothing). It only takes effect on the next stage you go to

Desk Plant is ez short range survivability though, definitely happy to have it
I even like Frost Relic, it's a nice defensive layer if not the best DPS one

Happiest Mask could just ghost me forever though

The worst thing about the War Bond is that it's a 1 time per level start and doesn't give that much. It could be redeamable if it did something like giving X amount of gold every minutes.

Other big issue is that beyond stage 1 to 3, money isn't rare anymore.

Other possible addition that would make this feel like a red item would be to give some sort of discount on chests (and then you could seek a synergy with the credit card Equipment,) or how about an effect whenever you open a chest. Like an AOE explosion for damage (synergy with Squid Polyp and Firework) or buffing your character for a few seconds.

Anything than that braindead paperweight item. Almost all items in that DLC exist in a vaccum and benefit no others.
