He's not a "better void fiend" though. They do different things.
But even despite my intentional incompetence and the bug, i came to the conclusion that he is very strong by default. Any character than can work well with a subpar build or even a literally broken one is good.
Ok but FS actually does feel fun to me.
Thank you. I shall point thee now to thine yonder beholder, for he has eyes for every perspective.
That's fair but whether he is fun or not is purely subjective on the type of player you are. Once you learn him you realize you can play him in all kinds of ways to make him fun.
Whether its to stack a bunch of proc items and laser beam everything out of existence or stack crowbars, gasoline, and bands and just run face first into a mob of enemies and smash them into smithereens with your club m1+m2. I think False is a very fun OP survivor who is a welcome addition to the roster.
Though it feels it's kinda the theme of these new characters, one slightly long CD for the actual good damage
Void fiend relys on rng to spawn void chests and events, the false son only needs max hp items that are much more common by far. I mean come on how many times do you open a chest hoping for a stim, armor or hell even a move speed item but getting a bison steak instead, its a statistical anomaly how many of the things I get per run just wanting ANYTHING other then a steak in most circumstances.
So in terms of items needed for them to build up stats/forms yes, better.
But better then void fiend? No. They both have their own unique mechanics and play differently. void fiend is squishy, but false son by comparison is a raid boss with many built in stat buffs.
Void Fiend is similar to how Commando can be good in the sense that the better you get at macro'ing items, the better and more versatile the character becomes. False Son in comparison I feel needs less, but also has less builds you can go for (this isn't a con, Loader's pretty similar in that regard and we all know that survivor is bonkers).
There's a bit of RNG involved but usually for the item-dependent characters you can get a very solid build going w/o even looping (basically, the way to play in Eclipse).
But Void Fiend can completely destroy the RNG scale just on the sole notion that he can immediately get overtuned with Void Fields, and he's the only survivor (barring maybe Seeker now? I didn't try that yet) that can do it right out of the gate no matter what, even E5-E8. So all those items you're getting there scales with the class and the consistency of snowballing the entire run because of it is quite high. And it only gets crazier from there.
Stopping the timer in Vields is like an indirect super-buff to the class.
And that on top of that while roller is active any cleaver hit at range will apply BOTH roller and cleaver debuffs to enemies?
Wouldn't giving a naturally slow character -50% move speed only make the move speed scaling worst since it starts low let alone a 50% loss.
The health scaling bit is a no brainer, 100% hp gain doubling your spikes but the move speed loss on him would be even more extreme and you would literally be a snail a that point no?
I don't feel the need to play eclipse or be a "pro" and macro items.
I just go in, ♥♥♥♥ around and find out then win or lose, I don't play risk of rain to lock in, I play it for fun.
And yeah seeker is broken in void fields, just use the travel ability to get to the next point straight away.
