Updated Unity engine, all mods need to be updated to work on it and if the person that made them isnt around then its gone.

As far as I understand, mods have a chance to survive smaller patches depending on what was changed but big patches usually break them entirely. Mod authors will have to update them before they work again.

You should wait for the mods update, modders will probably also wait for a stable version of the game

Some mods that add new characters work while others don't. As others said have to wait for the rest to update.

Every mod ever gets bricked by switching version, that goes for other games too (minecraft, skyrim, fallout,DRG...), there's nothing new about that

It's common for game updates to break mods. It's unheard of that game updates fix mods. It's the mod developers task to update their mods to be compatible.
