Does the game have any tips or tutorial in it?
I spent ten minutes running around trying to "find" (whatever that might mean) a "teleporter" that it told me to find.
What am I even supposed to be doing in this game? What is it about? How does it work?

very simply put, the basic gameplay loop is:
spawn
fight for money
use money to buy chests
loot everything then go to the teleporter
fight the teleporter boss
get to the next stage
repeat until you die or get to the final boss

it is alot more than that, thats the basic objective. now go kill 'em :toughertimes:

That is something I already did. Before asking this question.
You do not have to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - if you don't want to help, you can easily ignore my question and go about your day.

After reading and watching what was described as beginners' tips or tutorials, I tried it again.
Spent twenty minutes running around what seemed like a very small area, only to find the teleporter accidentally by the end in a place that looked like any other.
Then, I was killed by a boss that I knew would appear.
Is there some sort of method for looking for a teleporter? How is this even supposed to work?

The teleporter is surrounded by orange particles in the air that extend a decent distance.

I found the teleporter - again, accidentally.
The orange particles you describe were barely visible even when the teleporter itself was within my field of vision.
(and then, again, a boss fight. I don't get why every game developer thinks they are necessary)

skill issue.

don't play the game.. it's obviously too much for you to handle.

try sticking to something that holds your hand through the entire game, or better yet... plays itself.

In general, the teleporter will be on the opposite side of the map that you spawn on, so don't bother looking in the immediate area. As you explore you'll get a general idea of the layouts and the common locations the teleporters appear in.

There should be a setting that makes the particles more visible at a distance. I believe it is under "Umbrella features" on the first settings tab.

The main gameplay loop is to kill enemies to get gold to open chests to get items to kill enemies more. Once you've done enough on a stage you then aim for the teleporter and clear the boss to go to the next stage. Once there, commence killing enemies to get gold to... so on and so forth.

After a few stages you'll be able to go to the final stage, where you fight the final boss to reach the credits. Once done, you do it over again.

Alternatively you can not do the final stage and instead loop, allowing you to garner more items. Eventually you'll have so many items that looking in an enemy's general direction clears the stage.
it is also worth noting that the game is still in a decently rough shape after The Gearbox'ening, the most notable issue being that past stage 3 there is twice as many elites as intended. if you want the best out of the game, i suggest getting some mods to fix some of the bigger issues, or just downpatching
