merc dash tips?
I've been trying to play as merc and I need help with using his dash ability. I've heard of people using some special tricks with the ability like using it to knock flying enemies into terrain to deal large damage and using the third hit of his primary alongside the dash to dish out large damage, but I can never get the hang of it, and please tell me if these tricks are patched out. My ability loadout is Whirlwind, Focused Assault, and Slicing Winds.

Dashing into enemies and launching them into surfaces has always been finicky and 95% of the time it happened to me it wasn't intentional, with the Alloy Worship Unit being the only one I made an attempt to use it on. I think with the recent major patch it was either made much harder or was removed--can't say for certain but I don't think I've launched an AWU recently.

I don't main Mercenary so I can't give advice on the other thing, I mainly just hold the primary button and hope for the best. One thing I sometimes do though is I won't use the dashes in quick succession. I may do something like dash>whirlwind>dash>eviscerate>dash or some random variation of that, it depends on the situation such as if I want to save the eviscerate i-frames to avoid a Vagrant nova or keep a dash or two to get to cover to avoid a Vagrant nova.

Should mention that I use Whirlwind, Focused assault, and Slicing winds

For the dash thing, wait right before the audio of the second swing ends and dash. You'll get the hand of the audio part sooner or laterr.

I remember SOTS kinda changed some things initially, it tampered with the normal timing of the m1 expose dash tech. Normally, you can wait until you are just about to attack with the 3rd slash and then dash to swing while dashing, letting you hit alot of targets with expose and if done consecutively, lets you lower your cooldowns tremendously + alot more dmg but you seem aware of that. Though the FPS and weird interactions wrought by the newer dlc kinda broke that and also the dash cooldown particularly. No idea if it's been fixed officially, but if not you can just use mods.

I've not played in a minute, but thats the only strategy that kinda matters imo.

The other person elaborated on slamming with the dash to instakill flying enemies, but I think hopoo tried to remove that entirely many patches ago. I remember it used to be best to hug the enemy on top (AWU or vagrant for example) then dash downward, then they changed it so that you needed to end your dash within them, then they basically removed it around 1.0 I think? At extremely high attack speed/movespeed it might occur sometimes/rarely even now but i figured they patched out the exploit long ago.

Merc is my most played (vanilla) survivor, i run default because the extra mobility+iframes are invaluable for me. Sometimes i use uppercut for the band proc and raw damage thanks to backup mags, but it can get unwieldy and i miss the horizontal mobility from whirlwind.
