Risk of rain 2 Multiplayer with friend on R2modman

Okay, guys. I have a hard time playing with a friend in multiplayer on the R2modman mod manager thing. he got the codes with the mods I have. but when he starts the game through Start modded then pops up another install called Risk of Rain 2 dedicated server
and I don't see that when I start the game through Start modded in R2modman.... the other problem is when it did work before the thing showed up he couldn't see me in the game for some reason but I could see him run around when we were spawned. sorry for my broken english.
