I cant get past stage 4 on monsoon

You're going to need more precision. At which time do you usually get at stage 4 ? Do you have trouble staying alive or trouble killing the enemy ? Both ?

if i remember i take about 15-20 min to get to stage 4 and i have trouble staying alive and killing the enemy

honestly, it's about luck of the RNG gods. I can't even tell you how many times I've tried to get the commando skin and failed. Playing with Randoms on MP is a nightmare because 9 times outta 10, at least one person quits, leaving the rest of the players playing at a higher difficulty. If you're playing alone, It comes down to RNG.

I can only get to Stage 7 to unlock the skins. The one that took me the longest to get was Rex and Commando but when I'm playing with characters I particularly like Merc and Loader I go very far in the Monsoon Runs.

Play faster. Three minutes and three items per stage, including boss reward. That's a gross oversimplification, but it should get the point across.

Also try picking up "transcendence", the lunar item that looks like a beetle. Makes monsoon really easy as the shield replenishes way faster then HP.
Almost every good monsoon run was with that item.
