Epic Account bug

is a normal day, get home from work launch ror2 to grind a few endgame achievements. suddenly i need to sign into an epic account!? I don't have a connected epic account, I checked to be sure.
I don't have the required email/password to login so i hit the X the close the login window and get to the main menu.
Now multiplayer crashes to desktop, and single player just blinks and returns me to the menu.
How do i get rid of the epic account requirement so I can actually play my damned game!!??

tentative solution found.
in the in-game menu under game-play make sure epic cross-play is disabled.
leaving this up for anyone else who runs into this.
