His alt R starts off better sure but as far as I know it doesn't scale off attack speed like the base R so in the long run the base one is better.
With i-frames he's the only character actually given the tools to maintain close range with his opponents. Acrid and Loader don't have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to stay in melee range because they don't even get i-frames, no heals or anything
his damage seems totally fine to me bro, his left click is fine for early game and has great range. you can honestly sprint strafe better than huntress while throwing out those juicy slashes. And his ability to single target and AoE without any alt skills is good, I don't think many other characters can cover both so easily without ANY additional items besides like Artificer, and she is way harder to play
the only "screw you"s i feel melee characters have are blazing and malachites but even then you can zoom in and out pretty easy on merc. Blazing should not make a flame trail in the air because that's just cancer, the only thing it effects deadass is melee fighters and they already have to deal with it on the ground. Malachites just spam aoe everywhere which is what makes them annoying. Big spike piles AND those little floating spines
Maybe you shouldn't make a thread showing you don't know how to play a survivor while asking for unneeded buffs, Hmm?
As far as the good abilities part, alternate R is the only bad ability on mercenary, his kits actually kinda busted if you know what your doing. definitely one of the better survivors for sure.
i have his mastery skin... i have all of em, maybe check the player hmm?
