What the hell do you build on Acrid?
I really enjoy playing Acrid, but maybe somethings just not clicking. I have no idea what sustain items work well with him, and while I know to grab things like Tri-Tip and Ukelele to finish off 1 HP enemies. I always feel like I'm just not contributing to the team in the way I should. I try to do a hit and run playstyle, but i never feel like I can get far enough out to let my cooldowns recharge, and M2, while nice for stacking dot, doesnt seem to do much on its own. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or misunderstanding? Is the character just underpowered at the moment?

stolen hi Apr 16, 2020 @ 10:17pm
use melee and get into the action
or, if you really want, get 1-2 visions of heresy and become a ranged character
stack speed items if you want to hit and run
poison is %hp based so as you said, tri tip and uke are good
guillotines are also really good, but i guess thats the case for everyone

He is certainly far from underpowered. His % based damage while not being too strong is that ever present baseline you have no matter what. But consider that DOT more like a bonus because the poison application is the instance of damage that benefits from procs/dmg/crits etc. Long story short Acrid is one of the least item dependent characters which has to be the highest parameter when determining strength and consistency.

You issue is you expect him to do damage at the same rate as most other survivors and that's not how Acrid works.

I kinda felt this way, expected items to have as much of an impact as other survivors but it never seemed to. I agree the DOT is strong and with monster HP scaling not really affecting it, I guess I just need to play him a little more patiently.

Besides everything that's been said here, get guillotines and on-kills. If you haven't managed to stack enough Will'o'Wisps or a Ceremonial Dagger to start a proper chain reaction, get THE CUBE as well.

Alternatively, stack a thousand Razorwires, some health regen (Titanic Knurls or Scythes are pretty good) and a Hellfire Tincture. Game becomes AFK farming after that.

If you get a little disciple you can essentially gain back the proc chains you'd have with other survivors. I personally enjoy letting them finish things off while I run in circles and heal from their critical damage.

i use blight and that isnt % based damage so if you are not guarenteed guillotines aka using artifacts that let you choose items i would not use the poison esp if you are playing with another acrid as poison don't stack only blight does so only one person needs poison...if not playing with other acrids you will want to make sure to have anything that causes fatal dmg after you hit id try getting the sticky bombs too since they also help like tri tip.
he is propobly the most powerful chareacter in this game as right now

he as far as i am aware largest healthpool or one of largest

his dps is quite high and early on you can kill bosses almost as fast as artificer

there are ways to make him less melee with more then few ways to do it but despite never liking any melee character in this game i love playing him

just like each character you need to get used to him , once you get into his thing he is overpowered ridiculesly

moonsoon feels like cakewalk with him compared to other characters

only real downside is you need some healing items harder then other characters due you being in melee quite often

Blight weak af though. Sure, it stacks, but unless you've piled on the backup mags or have some brainstalks active, you'll only get a few of those low dps stacks on before they start to disappear. Blight also doesn't scale with enemy health, unlike poison which will due to its percentage based damage rather than a flat damage value.

Even if you aren't playing with Command on, Acrid works just fine without things like Guillotine. While on-hit and on-kill items are really helpful, they are far from necessary. I remember the first week after Acrid was added, someone on the discussions did a monsoon obliteration run with him WITHOUT ANY ITEMS. Acrid's base kit has real power behind it, but it only really works due to the insane damage that Poison can throw out (basically either Artificer full charge Nano Bomb, but over time, or a 10% chunk off of the health bar)

Blight + bite with backup mags and, hopefully, afterburner

It's extremely easy to burst down high priority targets when you can mass stack blight.
The only issue bite has is that it requires the acrid to leap onto flying enemies or resort to using epidemic. Personally like the feeling of leaping onto several flying enemies; just wished we had leap canceling for when we miss.

Or being able to chain leap if you have your second charge on it

The second build works for any character, yes, but Old Guillotine and on-kill items works specially well on Acrid because elites below the execution threshold can be killed by poison. A single elite dying will start a massive chain reaction.
