Corrupted Profile

36 hours in and I get a corrupted profile. Anyone know how to fix this? How does often does this happen? Why does it happen? Discouraging to start a new profile if this could happen again.

There are two things that can possibly cause a corrupted profile. 1. File editing for coins or achievements. 2. Certain mods(although this case is extremely rare). It shouldnt happen often unless if there's a hard drive issue. For future reference, copy and paste everything in your xml file(which is your profile data file) into a notepad, google doc, or word document and save it. This will make sure you have a backup if corruption does happen. To fix this issue, you can either start ♥♥♥♥ over again, try to look for spelling errors in your XML file, or go to https://riskofrain2-save-editor.web.app/ and look for your achievements you completed or just unlock everything in the game.

What happened was I was playing on my Steam Deck, put it into sleep mode, the next day I turned it on and the game had closed, when I started it again it said I had a corrupted profile. I just played the game. Didn't do any kind of manipulation of the save.

Interesting, its most likely either a steam deck problem or some hard drive issue. To be honest, im not too sure.

36 hours? not too much tho
but, maybe game wasn't optimized for steam deck, and probably will never be due to gearbox

There is a third reason why you can get this error:

3. If you have your RoR2 profile saved on the steam cloud, then disable cloud saving. If your save was on the steam cloud, it won't be able to see it once you disable syncing/saving to the steam cloud server, and may show as corrupted profile. That doesn't mean all is lost.

If that is the case, enable cloud saving again in the steam settings and force it to re-sync the game files in steam. This should recover your in-game profile (assuming this is the reason you are seeing the corrupted profile).

Tried editing my save file to fix the <NO GAMEPAD BINDING> bug and corrupted a 112 hour save file and my dumbass didn't back-up before editing...

I want to die

edit: fix my corrupted save - literally missed a single ">" while trying to fix my ♥♥♥♥ and only through exporting the .xml to .txt and back to .xml was I given a notice that somewthing was amiss on line 5500 but unfortunately I use garbo discount Microsoft crapware WordPad and couldn't find what line it was on because that ♥♥♥♥ is trash...

My original problem still not fixed
