- You're playing a 2D game in which you can always see everything going on, that alone makes it so much easier. Due to this it was incredibly easy to avoid danger and not take any damage, as well as kite monsters pretty much infinitely.
- There were basically no attacks that homed in on you or were hard to avoid. You could avoid basically any range attack by simply walking away from it, as well as most melee attacks that could be evaded by walking and jumping. Only a few things required you to actually use movement skill or iframes.
- Infusion infinite hp stacking, tough times offering % damage reduction, bitter root multiplying max hp (common item), crazy damage reduction of repulsion armor, the insanity of 56 Leaf Clover, and overall most items being stronger.
- Last boss was pretty much a joke once you figured it out.
- In general it was easier to have power spikes and become overpowered.
RoR 2 without a doubt is a harder game and takes more skill and knowledge to play.
I've beaten Risk of Rain 1 the same amount of times, or possibly more, with ~40 hours of playtime, as I've managed to accomplish in my 223 hours of time with Risk of Rain 2. I have nearly 100%-ed all of Enter the Gungeon with less total playtime, while I can barely win on Rainstorm difficulty in RoR2.
This game speaks a very specific language, and I clearly do not know it. That's the conclusion that I've come to.
What a convincing counterpoint, I must say you definitely proven every single of my points wrong without any doubt.
2 while with less items on a worthless scale (even a crazy huntress can make use of a focus crystal) since day one of early access 2 was hard, and can still send even the most experienced players back to the lobby during the first stage.
Now add some of the crazy mods (the creator of Inferno needs a handshake) and the difficulty ramp up goes sky high and its more obvious with some item pack mods that increase the pool of items in the "worthless" category.
I will say 2 does seem easier in some cases where certain item combo's allow almost a level of auto play but unless your playing command (that most people use) takes some hella good luck to set up.
This could also be a case of first game challenge, Dark Souls in my case was brutally hard for me but each game after the first got easier and easier due to experience to the point I cleared Elden Ring in a few days with very little overall deaths compared to others in my friend group that not only did less than I did but took significantly longer.
Step 2: Download Starstorm 2 mod
Step 3: Start Typhoon run
Step 4: Force yourself to not use command
Step 5: weep for your broken life
