Risk of Rain 2

Wait, so, I'm confused
Is this the end for RoR2 or not? The wording in the final paragraph of the latest dev thoughts seems to imply that. It only mentions that "Completing the console versions of Survivors of the Void remains a top priority for Gearbox" and "Gearbox will both develop and publish potential future titles in the series.", neither of which involve creating new content for RoR2, specifically.

I know a course of action can change and everything, but they were pretty clear when they said to expect expansions, plural. I don't care who makes them, be it Gearbox, Hopoo or the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toothfairy, doesn't matter, but I'd be disappointed if they were to backtrack on that implied promise. Right now it's all being communicated so poorly I have no idea what the plans for the future are.

Yes, but you see, money.

Like with We Happy Few, expect it to be promptly abandoned entirely after this acquisition.

This.

Even though we were promised another expansion.

Just going to have to wait and see what happens. No one is sure until either word from Gearbox (or lack of) on content after Survivors of the Void is discussed by them.

Yup, though gearbox's track record on this kind of thing does not inspire confidence in their alleged 'love' of the franchise in the slightest.

We will have to wait and see. Gearbox created two of the SotV stages, so it's worth waiting. I don't have high expectations, but I think it's too soon to say anything. Lots of complaining about something that literally doesn't exist at this point, and may not ever exist

RIP Risk of Rain tbh.

RoR2 is likely finished and won't receive any updates (except maybe critical bugfixes). I'm not too upset about that.

What I'm upset about is the fact Risk of Rain 3+ will likely suck balls if the original devs are no longer involved. I could be pleasantly surprised, but selling RoR to a AAA publisher/developer is like selling your brick-and-mortar, mom-and-pop local retail shop to Walmart.

Ngl, pre-emptively getting upset over a RoR 3 that may or may not ever happen doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The implied promise of more stuff that was supposedly on the way for RoR 2 being broken is what bothers me.

Yeah, Gearbox doesn't have the best track record, but that doesn't mean I'm going to dismiss anything they may or may do with the IP out of hand. Like I said, I don't care who makes it, be it Hopoo, Gearbox or the fairy godmother. I just want more RoR 2.

Maybe upset isn't the right word... Apprehensive might be more apt. I agree preemptive outrage isn't helpful (guilty as charged). I will be cautiously optimistic about future RoR products, but I also won't be surprised if Gearbox takes the series in a direction that primarily caters to their shareholders and not to consumers/gamers/fans. (e.g. loot boxes, premium skins, EPIC GAMES, etc.)

That's fair enough, yeah. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Though if the acquisition means we'll be getting ...♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anything for 2 I welcome it. The only way is up, the way it is right now. Not to badmouth Hopoo, they've created something truly unique/awesome and I understand not wanting to work on the same project for so long, but I want more of it and I'd be willing to pay for it. The game still has a lot of untapped potential.

Like yeah, I'm disappointed that they went the route of just selling the IP and washing their hands of it, but that's not going to change the world. The alternative would be utter radio silence and mounting frustrations about an expansion for the game that may or may not ever come out. Can't force them to continue on it if they don't want to.

They literally sold ror2's IP and stated they will not be part of the dev team for it anymore. Thats not "busy with other things," but yes they are working on RoR Returns now.

Its a shame what they did, hopefully they won't screw it up though
