Why are people freaking out?
Dont get me wrong, I'm not fond of gearbox owning the IP and its a shame that Hopoo stopped development for the game, but I want to address a few things.

1. Dont blame Hopoo for "selling out". Now this isnt me being a fanboy of Hopoo, I have some issues with them like how they rush their content, they seem to be having internal issues as a few staff left(i.e Ghor). So dont go accusing me of simping for hopoo. Anyways, Hopoo wanted to expanded their company for their projects. I know, Risk of Rain 2 is a great game, but all good things must come to an end eventually. They felt exhausted and they put all their ideas into SOTV. Hopoo didnt want to work on the game no more and they wanted to give it to someone else, since they didnt want to completely abandoned it(which honestly, I would of been fine with). Keep in mind its only risk of rain that is bought and not Hopoo. Give them a chance to work on something potentially cooler than Risk of Rain.

2. Is it really all Doom and Gloom? Risk of Rain 2 isnt gonna be impacted in a huge way. I just know it. Even if they were to add DLCs that ♥♥♥♥ up the game or even if they were to make risk of rain 3 and ♥♥♥♥ it up, thats all it is, DLCs and another game. Dont buy it if you dont want to support gearbox. As for micro transactions (i.e Lunar coins or skins), same thing, dont buy them. Keep in mind, this is purely hypothetical and it would be suicide if Gearbox did this to risk of rain. If they did it to Lunar coins it would counter intuitive since runs are temporary and not permanent. If they did it to skins, modders will just re create the skins or make skins of their own.

3. Review bombing? Why? I feel the whole idea of review bombing something is childish in most situations. The bomb isnt THAT huge, but I feel like "just cuz big bad corporation bought my favorite indie game so dont buy game." is so retarded to me. Most people dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about what they are buying as long as it looks fun into their eyes.

Look, Im not a fan of Gearbox nor am I fan of them having the IP to RoR, but can you guys just lighten up a bit? The game is still around and fine. RoR and RoR2 arent gonna go down the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And hey, if Im wrong, I'll own up to it.

tl;dr: I dont know why you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are freaking out over this.

I think that we should blame Hopoo. They teased chef and other new stuff back in May. Then it was 6 months of silence and now we got this.

I am not gonna support them in a future. If they were sick of developing this game then they could release some announcement instead of just one silly tweet and that's it.

They made a lot of money thanks to Risk of Rain 2. In March 2021 there were news that the game sold 4 million copies on Steam.

And you clearly have not heard about the whole discord situation where they laugh at fans and say other crap.

1. That was probably a tongue and cheek response and Hopoo playing along with "chef when?" meme. If your talking about the gif, then thats probably a teaser for ror1 remake. If people want to play him, play the mod, if thats not enough for you, guess you can't please everyone.

2. Silly tweet? Oh the whole "love letter" fiasco... yea they could of been a bit more exact in their word when Hopoo was done with developing RoR2, but thats wasnt Hopoos doing, it was Gearbox. Even than, they wanted to address the news, and they did.

3. Yes, but consider the fact that they have a budget, paying the other staff, and other business stuff, they only have so much money. They dont want to work on it, but didnt want to completely abaodon it so they gave it a company and they got their moneys worth. They could use that money to get more employees, fund projects, and maybe do something bigger with their company.

4. Im not sure what happened and I need to see it for myself for the whole context.

Look if you dont want to support them, thats fine, but I just dont understand why your making it a bigger deal than it really is.

Question: Why does RoR1 need a remake? It's not even 10 years old.

we'll probably never know the circumstances, how much, or truly why, as business transactions are NDA.

and no, you don't tease chef leaving us in a cliffhanger and then go silent for 6 months, without saying a damn thing about it and you get away with everyone beeing happy a bright, slap in the face.

I'm just mostly worried about gearbox "balancing" the game like they did to Borderlands 3 (which, let me remind you, is not a competitive game, yet they nerfed the hell out of tons of stuff)

yeah, it's pretty strange seeing everybody melting down like it's the end of the world for ror2 because gearbox owns the game fully now lol. gearbox is known for ruining games, but we still don't know what will happen to ror2 now that gearbox owns it. maybe it could be good or bad. idk. either way, stop overreacting.

Gearbox is known for ruining games, you said it yourself.

Back when I was just a tiny little boy, my mother taught me how to recognize and predict patterns.

And Gearbox has a pattern.

But I do hope they break that pattern, there's always hope

2.
they could also just make a bunch of balance patches and ruin the game as well, they can do more than just a bad dlc

I am rather surprised that devs would mock the fans since it was the fans who really brought this game up to its present popularity.

Is there a situation where fans DONT do this? You make a game for an audience no audience = bad game

But yeah, what happened with Hopoo games and their fans? I know about Gearbox but not that part.
