also we almost never end up with tonic in 1 bazaar.
However I see 2 problems with this change: the Heretic would become nigh-impossible to unlock / play for people without infinite coins & multiplayer interaction with the Lunar Shop would no longer be worth it because of the lack of Lunar Buds.
I'll also add that I'm not the biggest fan of Lunar Coin Editing. Not because it's cheating or whatever (I couldn't care less about what you do in your solo game) but because it ultimately hinders the gameplay experience of other people in multiplayer.
People lack self-control.
This aside, it gave me an alternative idea: Change the behavior of the Lunar Shop Refresher slightly and add a permanent chance to break (15-20% on each use perhaps, less than a Shrines of Chance; permanent as in "won't be able to reroll the shop until the run is over").
Once broken, I have 2 ideas for the Lunar Buds:
- Make Lunar Buds no longer display most items. (either randomly or in a pre-determined pattern like {?} {v} {?} {v} {?} )
- Break 2 Lunar Buds and turn the others into Lunar Void Potentials ( {O} { } {O} { } {O} )
That way it would not be (as) punishing for multiplayer, would still keep some lunar value even if the Refresher is broken, the Heretic would still be relatively accessible for everyone and your Lunar Coin count wouldn't matter as much as it does currently.
Its not hard to play the game casually and save up lunar coins..... There is zero reason to "cheat" in coins.
I have 437 coins atm and barely use them. You can easily get 1 to 2 coins per level and still have a good run time. Most of the time i dont even grab lunar items so that saves coins up too. There is no disadvantage for not grabbing lunar items. Just depends how you want to play.
Are you seriously saying that the game balance should be changed because cheaters have an unfair advantage? Wut
Yeah, cheaters get an unfair advantage... that's what cheating is. That's the first time i see someone use that as a justification to buff something in a game. "Hey, it's unfair that other players can get a wallhack and instant kill in [FPS game], so can we get a minimap that shows enemies and a double damage buff?" You wouidn't say that would you?
Nothing against the suggestion itself but lol.
I'll be honest, I have zero will to edit my coins, even on a new profile, to test it. If you want to verify that, you have the values, please be my guest.
I'll admit 1 bazaar is unlikely, not impossible though. Assuming you edit in the max amount you can hold, 2.1 billion, you can reroll like 30 times- that's more than enough rerolls to get the coins you need. Point is though, you can have tonic within two shop visits, easily before Mithrix. People who don't edit would need astronomical luck, or waste all the coins they've earned to get no-cooldown tonic.
In a competitive FPS game, those cheaters would get banned. Hopoo isn't banning coin editors, nor do they seem to have any intention to. The issue that I want solved is that currently, the best way to play ROR2 is to cheat, because Lunar items are fun, and essential to a lot of builds in this game. You shouldn't have to cheat to have a decent run like everyone else.
Heretic would probably be easier to get in a normal run, TBH. Normal meaning, no coin editing. If you had 1 item of your choice when you visit the shop, that means before stage 5 (and then going to the moon), you could visit the shop 4 times. That means Heretic could happen at the 4th shop visit, right before you either loop or go fight Mithrix.
In the same essence, I guess no-cooldown tonic would also become easier, since once again you only need 4 shop visits in my suggestion. With that in mind, honestly I'd probably change it to 1 lunar item OR equipment per visit, not 1 item and 1 equipment.
In the case of multiplayer, I'd just say each player can get 1 item/equipment.
My final suggestion is this, because I think it'd put the game on an even playing field whether you cheat or not.
You can spend one lunar coin to use the newt alter, summoning the blue portal which leads to the Lunar Shop. At the Lunar shop, you can interact with the Cauldrons, Lunar Seers (3 coins), or the Lunar Bud. Activating the Lunar Bud allows you to pick any Lunar item or equipment you want for two lunar coins. A new Lunar Bud spawns the next time you visit the Lunar Shop. Lastly, Lunar Pods (the ones that spawn on normal stages) cost 1 coin and give you 3 options similar to a Void Potential.
I think this is the best possible solution.
