I love the new change because it's no longer a free legendary item. I would be running into the second stage with a free legendary, several free green, and a multitude of white items and just smash my way through to the end. Now, if you get bad RNG for mobility and/or healing, you'll have to make that choice of going later and dying to stronger mobs, or just skip it entirely.
If anyone complaining about this change sits back and thinks about this for at least ten seconds, they'll realize that the Void Fields were completely broken before. Legendary items are incredibly strong and getting a free one before the second stage every run was stupid. Not only did it make the rest of the run a joke, but it became the norm. The second stage WAS the Void Fields for most people.
The DoT is pretty strong, but even one Bustling Fungus was enough for my Engineer with no mobility items to be able to out-heal the damage if I wasn't able to make it to the next orb in time.
I hate how wack void suffocation is. "I can't access this area without a checklist of items that only come from drops" is bad design for this kind of game, no matter how common those drops. Make the challenge come from the enemies, not this stupid stat check (which, let me remind you, you can't decide not to proceed with if you already entered the portal. Bad design.)
