Why does half of the captain's abilities get disabled?
Okay, I get that the captain's R ability is a bit bugged out with this update, but when I went to the ambry, the bazaar and gilded, both his shift and R ability were disabled. I guess it makes sense for bazaar for the ulti to not work, but why not the other two locations? And while at it, why the shift ability? Is this intentional or a bug?

Intentional

Kind of annoying how they are disabled in these areas tbh

this is the reason why

but I think it's stupid and nerfs captain for the sake of being "realistic" in a unrealistic video game.

...But.. that makes as much sense as any of the characters that use weapons to run out of ammo.. or robots dying out because they forgot to recharge.. or Acrid not being able to spit acid because they have buffalo meat in their mouth. I mean, okay, I can let the ulti part pass, but you remove his shift and all he has is his gun and his tazer.

I, on the other hand, think it offers an interesting risk-v-reward option. You know his limitations but are you greedy enough to jump into a zone where he must rely on half of his attack options?

That would be fair... if Void Fields was still just a dead end you went into for extra items (You can't really farm it now, it's not really even extra items since it takes so long and you only get 9 items).

Now it's just the entrance to a chain of 3 or 4 maps that lead to a final boss, and Captain can't use his abilities in any of them, AFAIK, which is a BIT much.

Waiting for spufpologists to try and explain why this is actually OK and good design and we should all just get good.
Not that you can't just shotgun everything to death anyway, but still, it's stupid and not fun and it's not like my immersion is suddenly broken because his ability works where it shouldn't.
Give the fkin space ship a way to shoot things into a void portal or something if it's a lore issue.

i almost get it because you're basically gonna be using your vulcan shotgun for 99% of your playthrough and the places they deactivate you're usually not gonna use your beacons anyway its just weird

Maybe he can get a void strike instead?

^ These.

Or, if you want to stick with the whole "can't use abilities", then give us a weapon that doesn't require spamclicking, or a tazer alternative that.. i don't know, something that works as an offensive ability.

It's a bad design choice, plain and simple.
You can justify it by saying his ship can't realistically be there, but as others have pointed out, that makes as much sense as literally any of the other nonsensical unrealistic things in the game.

Sacrificing gameplay for an entirely unnecessary and intrusive bit of lore just sucks.
I'm sure I'm not alone in that I would play captain a lot more if he didn't lose half of his kit half of the time.
Plaguelight Mar 5, 2022 @ 5:10pm
It's good design, but you are entitled to your opinions. Objectively fine as is, but I get why some cry foul, and to them, I say, "go mod your game, like everyone else who has a problem, want or need" as I'm sure there are a hundred different mods to 'fix" this for you.

Stop nagging at the devs when they give you tools to make their game play your way already.
Bellpepper Mar 5, 2022 @ 5:28pm
It's just really arbitrary and annoying. It'd be like not being able to sprint on rex on a certain level because 'the ground is too hard'. Losing access to half your abilities is not fun design especially on Captain where his secondary is not a very big part of his kit. It just makes visiting the new boss not very fun on an otherwise very fun character.
