Thoughts on Voidling?
After the initial high of downloading the DLC and rushing to fight the new final boss, I now don't find myself attempting to fight him at all. With a very repetitive, slow fight and (imo) harder path to reach him, I don't really see any point in going to fight him over Mithrix. Mithrix is much more fun and very easy to reach (and is considerably easier if you reach him in 20-25 min). I do really like the parkour between phases with Voidling however.

Basing it on the initial encounter, far more climactic than Mithrix, but that's all it has going for it. Mithrix is a far better fight imo.

I've fought him 3 times and beaten him all 3 times (although my friends I was playing with have died all 3 times, so not sure if my build was super good or if my friends are bad at dodging). I do like how they made a final boss that you can kill after a god run. Mithrix had the problem where if you fought him after stage 10, he would steal so many items that there was basically no way to beat him. Voidling still scales super hard health wise like Mithrix does and is a real threat, but is possible to beat even after you have had your fill of a god run.

I think my only complaint isn't about the Voidling stage or boss fight at all, but the Void Lotus stage where you charge the signals before going into the Voidling stage. When too many Void Jailers spawn, you are spending half your time in the void field zone dodging the instakill void explosion zones which is super annoying.

Still, overall I really like it. He feels like a much better late game boss than Mithrix, who can just delete you in phase 3 after he steals enough items. I like having another option to end a god run besides obliterating now.
beating mithrix after 15 stage+ easly, his final phase isnt hard at all even on melee, since you have to just dmg him not to kill and slowly take back your items, nad for me he is still much easier and fair that voidling
i don't think voidling is bad but he is kind of boring especially when compared to mithrix

Each time I've fought him I've lost except when I melted through all his phases in 2 minutes as Void Fiend.

I haven't technically truly fought him because I was just too OP but I thought the conclusion was kinda boring. Just a portal that says "fate unknown"

Fight I will not do more then I have to because all the running away and platforming in void that somehow ignores defensive items. By the time I have the items to platform, heal and be fast i could just obliterate with beads. Or even fight Mithrix. Sadly even Mithrix is more fun.

And homing attacks that hit even behind rocks is just lazy. Also they apparently did not finish the ending on time for release

Seems too huge for this dude and I farm them runs cold. Nothing burns my ass more than making it to wave 2, being voided, trying again and failing on a 3rd wave of more of the same rinse and repeat. Wowie, gotta go to the safr.zone fast, floor is lava mid-game interruption is jarring when in the heat of battle. Idk. Neat concept if just a 2 waver with a better wave 2.

The big laser that somewhat forces you to hide behind cover while making your way to it is an allright mechanic, it keeps you on guard while you make your way to it but that attack suddenly becomes total garbage when coupled with what feels like thousands of slow, high-damage AoE projectiles that force you to move out of said cover, leaving you with only a choice to either get melted by multiple small projectiles or a giant laser.

That arena is a giant donut, replace that "Thousand Homing Attack" with some randomized bullet-hell-like patterns that would go around the arena in-between his giant laser shots and suddenly, you have a boss that now ask you to react to his patterns and not "pray the homing RNG god"

He could slam the ground and create shockwaves all around the donut; or "magnetize" the inner / outer part of the donut at random and after a second of two, forcefully pull everything inside / outside of the donut; or shoot walls of bullets around the donut where you need to hide / jump in specific places to avoid it; or shoot straight patterns across the donut that, again, could be avoided by hiding or moving certain ways; or straight up use an altered version of "Glowing Meteorite" I don't know, there's loads of ways to make a giant fight like this interesting!

how is providence from the first game way more enjoyable that ror2's 3 optional bosses?

Then don't fight it over Mithrix. Fight Mithrix and then go to the Voidling. That way you also skip the Void Locus.

That said, it's indeed too simple of a boss fight, without many patterns.

I feel like there should be an incentive for fighting the voidling, after unlocking the void fiend i completely lost interrest in him. Think skins for killing it on monsoon would have been a really cool reward, but maybe i'm just asking for too much.

This is actually a great idea, I am surprised they didn't put something like this in, but I think they lost interest once they sold out to Gearbox. It has been like 16 months, no console port of the DLC from Gearbox, not a single update except the one after DLC release, and no bug fixes or balance changes. Also I never even bothered beating super cheapo boss Voidling for the Void Fiend, it was x10 easier just getting to Wave 50 in the Simulacrum. It was basically just Void Fields with 50 waves instead. Time consuming, but rather easy in comparison to beating the Voidling boss. I wouldn't mind the new enemies and the new boss, but their insta-kill game design just goes against everything in RoR2 I feel like.

Maybe its for the best considering many of the problems this game has (that hopoo implemented later in development like Pillars or Void Fields timer not pausing) can be fixed with mods easily enough.

I just can't believe we are nearly through 2023 and still nothing new in RoR2. It is like they sold everything to Gearbox and ran. RoR2 had so many updates after it came to the public, and once the DLC released, POOF. I was hoping for maybe one more DLC before they ran with the sack.

Extremely easy: get on top of voidling, and now he can't do anything against you.
