What is this new "Collapse" Status Effect and why does it just ruin runs?
So I played around with the Railgunner character for a while, but I've had half-baked runs because every singe run I enter a level with the "Destroy Void Seeds" objective which isn't very well explained but I digress. Every time I attempt it, I randomly get a status effect that just instantly kills me, or at least takes out half of my health.

Can someone explain what this is? I've been told this is because of the new Void Cradles but the game is not communicating well enough what is causing the status effect or where it's even coming from. The game already can be such a visual mess in later levels, I can't tell what's even happening. Please help.

its more of a delayed burst damage instead of overtime damage, although it does do more damage
Any enemy that is "corrupted" by one of the Void Beetle/Mite thingies (the little bug on their face) auto-procs this when they hit you.

Yes, it can stack.

Needletick, the void-corrupted version of Tri-Tip Dagger, lists collapse as dealing "400% base damage". I'm going to assume that collapse is the same across the board, regardless of who procs it.
This'll be why collapse procs do roughly half your health from a single stack - enemies have moderately high damage stats (Elder Lemurians, for example, come in with base 16 and +3.2/level), and I'm pretty sure being some form of elite jacks their damage up even higher.
400% of a large number is, well, an even larger number.

Level 20 Elder Lemurian, assuming no other damage bonuses, will slap you with a Collapse proc that will deal some 320 damage. Chance my math is wrong, but I think it gets the point across.

at the risk of calling the devs hacks, I think this is kinda bad? Every death to the Collapse status effect doesn't feel like my fault, it sorta feels like incorrectly placed number checks and it really shouldn't be capable of downing you that fast.

i was playing with 3 of my friends when 2 bubbles spawned ontop of each other, there's a void corrupted imp overlord and two corrupted void lemurians, all of us except the one playing merc get wiped because we got hit ONCE. the guy playing merc was lucky with his i-frames, managed to get to the next stage completely ignoring the enemies. (we all died to burn damage from a grandparent because they somehow bugged burn damage)

if it's any consolation

"void blight" is vulnerable to old guillotine's execute threshold and there does exist now "ben's jacket" which is a red that makes you invunerable to all debuffs
