Encrusted key worse than rusted key?
Reading the descriptions in the logbook it states that the rusted key will give a red 20% of the time and a green 80% of the time, while the encrusted key will give whites 60% of the time, greens 30% of the time, and reds 10% of the time. Both still say they get consumed on use so why would anyone ever grab an encrusted key? Is this a glitch? I've seen some posts stating that the rusted keys are always giving reds now so did they just get switched?

Encrusted key gives you void items, and I believe it lets you choose from a few, could be wrong though.

Diabetus is right, key really does give you a choice from 3 void items. They ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the description for the key in logbook somehow

Rip, well I hope they get things figured out soon, still love the game but it's definitely got issues atm

Void items are meant to be situational similarly like how lunars are. Rusted key can be great sometimes but you could get a wungus or plasma shrimp. It just depends on the situation

Btw the description of the rusted key is wrong, the box it opens always gives you a legendary.

The devs have confirmed that is a bug, so enjoy it while you can.

Well yeah duh that's how they work but the description of the encrusted key in the logbook made it seem like it was just worse in every capacity.

That's just because there are white, green, and red tiers of Void items, it's just not obvious at first. So when the Encrusted Key says it gives a white 60% of the time, Green 30%, and red 10%, that's entirely true. It's just that they will be a Void item of that tier.

The way you can tell the Void item tiers apart is by what item they corrupt. If it corrupts a white item, it's a white tier Void item. If it corrupts a green item, it's green tier, etc.

Just to second this, KellyR has it exactly right. It's a 60% chance of the white-tier Void items, a 30% chance of green-tier, and a 10% chance of red-tier. If you want a Benthic Bloom or Void Dio (forgot the name), Encrusted key gets you an additional void item roll each stage.

Yeah I was just confused because from the description itself I don't remember seeing any mention of it being a void item

I took Benthic Bloom once, just to unlock it in the logbook. Never again :D

Void Dio's would be a straight upgrade, except for that bit about "All your items that can be corrupted become corrupted", so it'll turn all your Clovers into Benthics and nah.

Benthic is such a trap item. It sounds so good! Upgrade a few items to higher tier each level! But unless you're getting a TON of items per level (So basically unless you're playing Sacrifice) it WILL eventually eat all of your whites. And eventually possibly all your greens too. Having nothing but reds sounds good, until you realize you won't have any speed increases, no Tougher Times, no attack speed bonus...

Yeah, those whites are foundational and you need them lol.

Isn't that the only difference?

That's very true. On paper it seems like a fantastic item that can singlehandedly turn any run into a god run if you find it early enough, but in reality there's only a very small window where Benthic is optimal that lasts for about 2 to 3 stages before you plan to end your run, and after that it just ruins your build completely.

Benthic reminds me of Egocentrism a lot in this regard. It's all fun and games when it absorbs warbanners and plates, until suddenly -oops- it eats your [insert valuable item] and suddenly your run is on a timer.
