Egocentrism is actual trash
New lunar that turns your current items into it, because of this its actual trash

I had 7 stacks and it couldn't kill a single beetle guard on its own, after it had taken my void items and multiple of my damage up white items

Its actual trash why would you add this

They should buff it either by just straight up giving actual functional damage, or make it only take certain items

Or just give us a lunar item that doesnt kill us because it stole YOUR ONLY SURVIVABILITY ITEM

Bought it because "ya'know, new item might aswell check it out"

I recommend only taking this item if you want to lose your run, because something I've learned from putting 320 hours in this game is that a balanced set of items will give way more consistent wins

I personally find it hilarious. Desperately grabbing up items only for them to be absorbed into the fold.

All other lunar items have some niche scenario where they shine

This item does not, because best case you find a cleansing pool with it and mass dump for pearls, and even then I'd rather have all the damage and healing items it stole from me

It sucks at 7 stacks, but it's scaling gets ridiculous and it starts putting out some pretty nutty damage eventually, just gotta let it eat a few items first.

Use other lunar items to pad your inventory that you don't mind the temporary negative effect of (brittle crown, transendence, beads of fealty, etc). Egocentric will eventually eat them but it's good padding to lower the chances of an item you want getting hit.

The damage gets nutty though and if you route properly you can easily outloot the item conversion and stay ahead of it.

And when you do eventually find a cleansing pool you're just a god.

Lunar items have always been optional in every single aspect. There have always been lunar items that will actively kill your run. If the item doesn't apply to you, don't pick it up. What's wrong with that?

There has never been a lunar that killed runs as fast as this one

I died within 7 minutes of picking it up because it stole all of my surviability, the only situation where its ok is IF you find a cleansing pool, which is an incredibly rare scenario (in my 320 hours i've only seen 5 pools)

No other lunar is ever a garenteed run killer, this is pretty much a run killer garenteed unless you are playing command sac to keep up with item consumption
Do you play on command? Or are you missing the pools? They aren't that rare at all, but they wont spawn on command. I've seen them pretty often, so it may be something on your end.

I don't see how it's trash, you just have to make sure to have enough movement items before picking it up. After that, you usually get more items over time than Egocentrism consumes, and it gets more powerful over time (insanely powerful, you just have to come close enough to the enemy).

It's almost a cliché at this point to state that lunar items always come with a challenge. The challenge that comes with Egocentrism is actually not how to deal with a run where your only item is Egocentrism, it's whether or not you can assess if a run is going well, and how far you want to take it.

The item is fantastic. It has a proc coefficient of 1.0, which is insane in and of itself, and it boasts multiple instances of it that home in on enemies, and it has a wonderfully low cooldown to boot.

Everyone has read the item's description and thought "man, this is gonna turn me into a god, friendship with everything else over, egocentrism is my new best friend", but you can't really make the item work without anything else around. The proc coefficient alone is too good not to try and stack some items on top of it to make the damage output truly massive. Which means it's a very lategame item. You will eventually find yourself with poor items, so there is an argument to just weave it in your build toward the middle/late parts of a run.

TL;DR : you're not supposed to use Egocentrism exclusively, you're supposed to make it work with whatever it hasn't eaten yet.

How well does a hundred of them pair with one volcanic egg?

its great for converting items into lunars for use with a cleansing pool, the new stage two as far as ive seen is 100% assured to have one as well
*cries in simulacrum*
I'll give that a try on regular gamemode though. Thanks for suggestion.

I like it. You need to change your thought process once you pick it up, but it's a lot of fun. Once you accept that you must become the consumer of worlds in order to outpace your own item, and that you need to ignore more expensive options in favour of quantity, it can become a source of insane amounts of passive damage.

You literally just described a niche scenario to pick the item. Cleansing pools. But it's also just fun to ♥♥♥♥ around with sometimes. I don't think it's a good item myself, but that's fine. I wouldn't take it on just any run, but there's some runs where maybe my items are crap or maybe I want to farm for pearls so I'll snatch one up. I also find that the conversion rate is generally slower than the rate I grab items so I can stay ahead of it a bit. Side note I would not be surprised if it was coded in to steal the bands before anything else lol

I don't play on command because command is boring as ♥♥♥♥. And no pools are exceedingly rare, Once I get to a certain level of strength I full clear every single stage and I've still only ever seen 5

They are way to rare to be egocentrisms only upside since by the time I do find one 500 stages down the line I'd be dead because it turned all my good stuff into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

And again, even in the rare chance that I do find one, I'd rather have the legendaries, the void items and all the good stuff that was integral to my build instead of a bunch of health ups

Ego giveth, and Ego taketh...
It might be bearable on Sacrifice runs. Later in the game the flow of items spirals out of control, and Ego taking some of it might not be such a problem.
But yeah, vanilla runs don't mesh well with Ego.
