All other lunar items have some niche scenario where they shine
This item does not, because best case you find a cleansing pool with it and mass dump for pearls, and even then I'd rather have all the damage and healing items it stole from me
It sucks at 7 stacks, but it's scaling gets ridiculous and it starts putting out some pretty nutty damage eventually, just gotta let it eat a few items first.
Use other lunar items to pad your inventory that you don't mind the temporary negative effect of (brittle crown, transendence, beads of fealty, etc). Egocentric will eventually eat them but it's good padding to lower the chances of an item you want getting hit.
The damage gets nutty though and if you route properly you can easily outloot the item conversion and stay ahead of it.
And when you do eventually find a cleansing pool you're just a god.
The item is fantastic. It has a proc coefficient of 1.0, which is insane in and of itself, and it boasts multiple instances of it that home in on enemies, and it has a wonderfully low cooldown to boot.
Everyone has read the item's description and thought "man, this is gonna turn me into a god, friendship with everything else over, egocentrism is my new best friend", but you can't really make the item work without anything else around. The proc coefficient alone is too good not to try and stack some items on top of it to make the damage output truly massive. Which means it's a very lategame item. You will eventually find yourself with poor items, so there is an argument to just weave it in your build toward the middle/late parts of a run.
TL;DR : you're not supposed to use Egocentrism exclusively, you're supposed to make it work with whatever it hasn't eaten yet.
I'll give that a try on regular gamemode though. Thanks for suggestion.
I don't play on command because command is boring as ♥♥♥♥. And no pools are exceedingly rare, Once I get to a certain level of strength I full clear every single stage and I've still only ever seen 5
They are way to rare to be egocentrisms only upside since by the time I do find one 500 stages down the line I'd be dead because it turned all my good stuff into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
And again, even in the rare chance that I do find one, I'd rather have the legendaries, the void items and all the good stuff that was integral to my build instead of a bunch of health ups
bro i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love egocentrism #624
It might be bearable on Sacrifice runs. Later in the game the flow of items spirals out of control, and Ego taking some of it might not be such a problem.
But yeah, vanilla runs don't mesh well with Ego.
